Description:
Cat in the Box: Deluxe Edition is the quintessential quantum trick-taking card game for 2 - 5 cool cats, where your card’s color isn’t defined until you play it! Hypothesize how many tricks you will win, and record your bid. Place tokens on the community research board as you play your hand, and connect large groups of tokens to score even more points. Plan your tricks carefully as you cannot claim the color of a card with the same number that has already been declared. Doing so would be pawsitively catastrophic as you have just created a paradox!

Already own the game, I would recommend this game. My 2nd fav trick taking game just after The Crew Mission Deep Sea.

I agree The Crew Mission Deep Sea is my favorite trick taking game bar none.

      • Hadn't heard of The Crew before - what sort of age range is it good for? Looks like there are different versions (eg quest for planet nine)

        • Quest for planet nine is the original and a bit simpler. Deep Sea has a lot more replay ability. I've used it to teach people trick taking games before so it start real easy but can get very hard. Although if you playing with kids it is very easy to adapt to make it easier.

So id recommend for anyone which is capable of understanding and playing a trick taking game.

          • @pev: Thanks - bought deep sea for $18 on Amazon

I was going to get it but saw there is some Colossal version coming out. Wonder how much it'll be.

      • I didn't know that I wonder if that is why there selling this version cheap.

        https://colossalcatinthebox.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

        • Could very well be. This original version would just sit on the shelf anyway so I'm better off waiting to see what the Colossal version is like.

Edit: Hmm, it does say it won't be released in retail. Will that be ever? I don't know how these things work.

          • @ozbs25: You can preorder it now on the that link 69usd +30usd shipping.

            • @pev: That's quite a lot of money for something I don't know if I'd ever get the chance to play. I have to get my family into games.

              • @ozbs25: I think the crew will be a much better game to introduce to your family on that case.

                • @pev: Already have both of those.

Edit: I have quite the collection for someone who doesn't really play anything. I'm hoping it won't all go to waste.

I own it but haven't gotten it on the table yet.

Agree that Crew is the best trick taker out there and a good introductory game to trick takers.

Bridge is also pretty good as well but more strategic. Fox in the Forest is a fun 2 player interpretation of trick takers. Yokai Septet is pretty good as well.

    • Yea, Fox in the Forest is decent and Yokai Septet gave my head a spinner when I first played. All decent games.

      • We're in the golden age of trick takers with the amount of games being localized and made for it.

Excited to see Robotrick come over from Japan soon.
