Thank you that tremendous observation Sherlock 🙄

  • I loved these back in the day but they are slow as hell.

    • +3

These newer ones are decent enough for sequential reads, up to 300MB/s. Feels more like proper USB 3. Handy for installing OSes (Ventoy).

      • The older ones I had were all usb 3.0.

        I'll give these a try.

        • Try your older ones, if your older ones all show 300MB/s sequential read in CrystalDiskMark, then yon won't feel these are faster.

          128GB version, SeqQ32T1 Read: 314.4 MB/s, Write: 63.42 MB/s.

So reads are decent enough, writes are still USB 2 like speed.

Don't be tempted to hook it up to your keychain, the connecting port will be crushed against other keys rendering it impossible to use.

I kept mine in my wallet and it got crushed.

      • How? I've had 3 earlier versions of these (16GB) dating back to 2016 and all work fine, despite going through a few washing machines… They're not the quickest but then they're ancient in tech terms. They DO make excellent boot drives for new versions of Windows et al.

Current one is a 256G, bought for $31.81 from Amazon in July this year, it's as fast as you could want and has survived living on my keyring since July. I don't sit on my keys, I don't sit on my phone.

        • The end got mangled. Coins I guess.

      • I keep USB cover caps on them, and they have all survived so far (USB caps from previously purchased keyboard, mouse, etc…).

    • Dunno had it on my keys for over a year now without issue. And my keys are stupidly packed. It can sit at a weird angle however due to the way the hole is placed.

Amazon never has an deal of its own. Its the same price at Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Jbhifi etc. Amazon only price matches the other Aussie retailers.

    • Because free shipping.

    • Amazon definitely has its fair share of deals. But a good portion of them are also matching brick and mortar stores. This is SOP for Amazon. And then retailer's like OW will automatically price beat, even if only by a few dollars in order to not price match.

Everyone has deals and they're all competing with everyone else.

  • It looks exactly the same as the Tesla one that comes with your car. Might be good as a backup for Sentry mode.
