Interim Refresh / Upgrade advice for Ryzen 3600 PC

Hi folks

A few years ago I got some great advice here for building a mid-tier PC with a Ryzen 3600 processor. I do the odd bit of gaming and do photo editing/video editing with 4k footage quite a bit. Recently my motherboard has died and so thought this might be an opportunity to do an interim refresh of my build to future proof it a bit. Not looking for a high-end machine but more solid mid-tier based on my requirements above. Basically, want to refresh the GPU (though have already bought a 6700xt Sapphire Radeon to replace my 1660Ti), mobo and possibly the CPU if there's anything good value around. Open to either AMD or Intel. Any suggestions welcome but don't want to go overboard. Current specs:

Ryzen 3600 (any suggestions for a good modern CPU to replace based on my requirements above welcome)
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 Desktop RAM – if I can keep this for now and upgrade later would be ideal.
Motherboard – Tomahawk B450 Max – looks dead – any replacement options welcome for intel/AMD.
Sapphire Radeon 6700XT (just bought)
Corsair RM 750x PSU
Crucial 1TB SATA SSD + another seagate barracuda HDD to go with it.

Any input/advice most welcome. Thank you in advance.

  • You don’t need a CPU upgrade for a 6700XT. The 3600 will not be bottlenecking your system. Save that money for future.

    • My motherboard dying has kind of forced my hand

      • +1

Well, no. Just replace the motherboard and keep the CPU…

        • Okay, thank you for the suggestion. Wasn’t sure whether I should use this opportunity to future proof the system a little bit more.

  • you are only 3 gens old, the best budget cpus atm for amd are 5600 or 7600 if you want the latest

    with code BF22AU or BF20AU

will be your best bet for the 5600

as for the motherboard maybe this one from the same retailer and discount

    • Thank you for the suggestion I was looking at the Ryzen 5 7600 X, do you think that would be a bad option? If I could get an ATX motherboard, it would be ideal.

      • it really depends on your use case, if just gaming it makes little to no difference, you will also need to get ddr5 ram for the 7600x.

        • I would more often use it for my photography and video editing. Would the 7600 be a good choice for that? Not sure of the level of difference between the two.

          • @dinglejerry: for video editing, the more cores you have, the faster it is. I would actually go for intel for video editing if that is your primary usage.

            • @garetz: Yeah it is a hobby of mine, but I'm looking for a bit of an all rounder. The odd bit of gaming and video editing/photos would be ideal. The 7600 seems to have good reviews. I'm trying to get my head around whether that would be fine for me or the 7600x. 7600 I assume I'd still need DDR 5

I don't know much about recent intel processors, will look into that. The i5 13400f caught my eye.
