Which Air Purifier should I get?

I often have itchy, runny nose and sneezing when I wake up in my bed in the morning and this sometimes subsides in the afternoon, and sometimes goes throughout the day. I'm looking to buy an air purifier and below are what I narrowed it down to:

  • Winix Compact 4-stage Air Purifier

  • Winix ZERO 4-Stage Air Purifier

  • Winix ZERO+ PRO 5-stage Air Purifier

  • Daikin Air Purifier MC30

  • Daikin Air Purifier: MC40 Panasonic PXV35 Air Purifier with nanoe X Active Purification and HEPA Filter

I mainly want it for: dust, dust mites, pollen, viruses, mould, allergens, odours.

It's great that you're considering an air purifier to improve the air quality in your home! Let's explore the options you've narrowed down and find the best fit for your needs.

Here are some of the air purifiers you've listed, along with their features:

    1. Winix Compact 4-stage Air Purifier: This model offers a 4-stage filtration system. While it's not as advanced as some other options, it can still effectively capture dust, pollen, and other airborne particles. However, for comprehensive allergen removal, you might want to consider other models.

    2. Winix ZERO 4-Stage Air Purifier: Similar to the Compact version, this one also has a 4-stage filtration system. It's suitable for general air purification but may not be the best choice if you're specifically targeting allergens like dust mites and mould.

    3. Winix ZERO+ PRO 5-stage Air Purifier: With its 5-stage filtration system, this model provides better coverage. It includes a hospital-grade HEPA filter, which is excellent for capturing dust, pollen, and other allergens. The additional stages enhance its effectiveness against odours and viruses.

    4. Daikin Air Purifier MC30: Daikin is known for its quality products. The MC30 features a multi-stage filtration system, including a HEPA filter. It's designed to tackle dust, mould, and allergens effectively.

    5. Daikin Air Purifier: MC40 Panasonic PXV35 Air Purifier with nanoe X Active Purification and HEPA Filter: This Panasonic model combines nanoe X technology with a HEPA filter. Nanoe X helps neutralize odours and inhibit viruses. The HEPA filter takes care of dust, pollen, and other particles.

Considering your specific requirements for dust, dust mites, pollen, viruses, mould, allergens, and odours, I recommend focusing on models with HEPA filters and additional purification stages. Here are my top picks:

    • Winix ZERO+ PRO 5-stage Air Purifier: Its comprehensive filtration system makes it an excellent choice for your needs.
    • Daikin Air Purifier MC30: A reliable option with effective allergen removal capabilities.

Remember to place the air purifier in the room where you spend the most time, preferably near a window or doorway for optimal airflow. Happy breathing! 🌬️🌿.

  • Which Air Purifier should I get?

    A tree.

    • +1

trees do not purify air, they generate oxygen and eat up carbon dioxide.

        trees do not purify air

        Wrong….

"In addition to releasing clean oxygen for us to breathe, trees play a critical role in improving air quality by removing air pollutants and greenhouse gases from the atmosphere."

Exactly. Same principle as using fresh water to flush out polluted water.

Modern humans are scared of trees. They'd rather roast on earth than plant and protect the 2nd best buffer we have to dodge the outcomes of our own stupidity, (after 1st best, cutting down on our over breeding habits, that is)

          • @Protractor:

cutting down on our over breeding habits

I was agreeing with you until I read this

          • @Protractor: But they will not cut down significantly on allergens, which is a major reason for buying an air-purifier

Imagine you have all of them, now your task is to find the HEPA filter replacement. Buy the one whose filter is easily and readily obtainable.

Just chiming in to say that my wife and I semi recently purchased a Winix ZERO+ PRO 5-stage Air Purifier and it has been fantastic. We bought it with the intention of off-setting the impending severe fire season and smoke but it came in clutch with recent backburning that was conducted in our area and kept the bulk of our living areas supplied with fresh, clean air. We also have 2 dogs (Border Collie & Border Collie cross) so it helps keep any pet smells out of the air. Not the cheapest unit but I can give it my "random person on the internet" emphatic thumbs up.

  • Winix ZERO 4-Stage Air Purifier. Replacement filters can be found on Amazon for about $85. Clean the screen weekly, vacuum the filters monthly, replace the filter yearly. It’s a fairly large unit that’s capable of doing a good size room.

Tried to PM some info, but couldn't.

    Lat years Choice Magazine seating ranked;
    Winix Compact 4-stage Air Purifier - 53%
Winix ZERO 4-Stage Air Purifier 68%
    Winix ZERO+ PRO 5-stage Air Purifier 72%

No testing of Daikin at that stage.

The best value in the high ranking results was probably the Philips Series 3000i, 80% with RRP of about $749 ($499 at Bing Lee atm) and cheaper replacement filters than Winix (as well as longer replacement period - 36 month interval)
Sharp FX-J80J-W was cheaper again and rated 78%

Those air purifier will do bugger all, it's just a glorified piece of emperor home decor. If you have hayfever (likely based on the description) then the only way is to move to far north Queensland. Air purifier only helps if there's bushfire around or in somewhere like Beijing or Mumbai.

    • Exactly. This is like buying a new engine for a car based on a noise you heard.
      What cost of living crisis?

  • why isn't the Samsung AX90 not considered? Decent machine with wifi/app control and extra filters easily found. Unit can be bought for under $400 on offer.

/r/airpurifiers knows the best air purifiers, but they are very US centered.

This has a list of air purifiers with a lot of specs, you can sort by country at the top: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17j6FZwvqHRFkGoH5996u…
