  • "perfect"…

  • I almost forgot people still use DSLRs. I would not be investing any more money into an obsolete technology.

    • I actually found some latest F mount lenses very good value at the moment as people are moving to the mirrorless Z mount. I bought a used Sigma 135mm F1.8 art at $800 in perfect condition, and the comparable Z mount Nikon (well, it is better in every way I must admit) sells for almost $4000.

But no, I won't be buying a new F-mount lens now. I will still be happy to pick up some good second-hand F-mount lenses if they are heavily discounted.

    • Beat the tech till it's dead, just don't pay full price for old tech.

      • Certainly used stuff is a good idea, I would just be reluctant to buy anything new for f mount unless at significant discount. Well unless you just like DSLRs and it makes you happy then to each their own.

  • The 18-300 is a compromise. If you like super sharp images and zooming into them you'll be disappointed. Not everyone is like that but it's not for me.

    • I use a lot of high end primes but keep a Sony 24-240mm lens for travel as it is very versatile. Sometimes you just need to be able to get the shot quickly without messing with lenses. The quality is certainly not as good as a high end lens but then I don't use it to shoot landscapes or something which would be printed at high resolution.

In other word despite being a lens snob I do see the appeal of these super zooms for travel shots and the modern ones have ok image quality

      • I started off with a Tamron 28-300XR. Amazed at the quality I got once I ditched that lens and went to 2 lenses. For me a superzoom is never worth it if it produces soft garbage low contrast images.I would rather hang 2 cameras off my neck any day.
