Reasonable Outdoor Blinds Cost (Apartment) ?

I live in an apartment and am keen to get some outdoor blinds for the balcony to have some protection for wind/rain/dust/insects.

The balcony window is 2500 x 1550 and I've been quoted $2900 for an installation.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this sort of stuff, but it seems hella expensive given my balcony is only a modest size? Tbh, I was expecting somewhere between $1-2k at a stretch..

The other problem is that I've had a few other companies come to quote, but then pull out for "health and safety" reasons as my apartment is on the 7th floor while this company is willing to do it.

What do you guys think? Is it crazy to bite the bullet and pay it or am I being really ripped off here?

Are you even allowed to install the blinds? Do they need to be approved by body corporate or similar?

Yes, I've reached out and no issue with body corp as one of my neighbours has done similar.

  • If the body corporate approves, todays outdoor blinds really do cost $3000 installed.

    • That's good to know. I'm really just wanting to sense check the price is reasonable for what it is before I decide to go ahead or not.

      • I, too, scoffed at the price but I guess that is the going rate.

  • Are you after blinds that cover the whole balcony (not just the window)? Or just want the window (presumably a door?) covered? \

    • The balcony is covered on the sides and top so it's only the window that needs covering.

      • Look at an online blinds place, Tuiss blinds does outdoor blinds in your size for around $900 or a bit less. Not installed, obviously - you have to install them. Dont know how hard that is for your location, but I guess at worst you can pay someone to install for $1000 and still come out ahead

  • Anything above ground will need a scissor lift or scaffolding… or someone willing to risk it on a ladder (though probably not 7th floor!). The first two add to the cost substantially.
