i dont think i'll ever buy zipper luggages even if it were on sale.

    • Can you please clarify what you mean by this? Do you mean like the old school strap/clamp down luggage?

      • +3

Old treasure chest. With a padlock. 🤣

        • zipper luggages with padlock are not safe either. lol but sure, if the treasure chest is clamp style and it has wheels, much better than zipper luggage

        Duct tape and cardboard box!

        • +1

Memories of my old man doing this with rope tied around the box.

        • funnily enough, some airports have services that wrap your luggage with cling wrap. once you land and you see the cling wrap tampered with, you best not touch that luggage

      • yes, all my luggages have been clamp luggages. my most recent one is

        Samsonite Suitcase Flite GT 31

if youre a frequent traveller, or have been to countries with a bit dodgy reputation, it is easy enough to either snuck in controlled substances by piercing the zipper with a pen and closing it back up (unbeknownst to the owner). it is also easy to get literally anything from your luggage thru the same manner.

You haven't put the price in the title, let alone store. So it's free, then?

Edit: Cheers for fixing it. Have a +.

does anybody know from experience how these compare with the typical american tourister and samsonite in terms of durability?

I have this exact model and used it for my 3 month around the world trip recently so it took what I'd imagine to be a massive beating at around 15 airports. It is probably the best suitcase I've owned and my frst Antler; I;m normally a Samsonite guy. Also paid $180 at DJs when it was half price.

Made with polycarbonate instead of polypropylene which most other hard shells are made with, BUT I only did a quick 2 minute google to see which is better. Double wheels so easily to manoeuvre on even on inclines and declines, and it never tipped even at 35kg. Quality zipper. Very scratch proof. Nice rubber handles.

      Highly recommended.

    • I have older Antler suitcases which still rocking over 15 years now. I've just purchased a new Antler set just because I want something new. In term of durability, they are comparable to Samsonite. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Antler is more affordable. But Samsonite looks better and lighter for 3 times the cost.

Why do I always feel suss about ozb accounts that were created some time ago, often about a year, 0 deals and 0 comments and then post a deal out of the blue? It always feels to me like sleeper accounts, created and just dormant until needed to post a deal. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

    • Bugs in your skin

    • genuine question - is there a problem with these types of accounts?

      • Conspiracy theory - sleeper accounts created so as not to arouse suspicion

        • suspicions of what?

          • @coldazure: Sockpuppeting.

            • @xoom: i can see that being an issue in other more traditional marketing channels but ozb is a bit too savvy to call out bad deals. you get flamed so hard if you post a bad deal.

              • @coldazure: Obz is smart. But some sockpuppets are not. So there.

Thats a pretty heavy bag, making up a large portion of your baggage allowance

    • Came here to say that - 5.4kg is crazy

I try and travel with just a carry on backpack and my entire loadout is not much more than that

  • Anybody knows what materials it's made of? Antler isn't super transparent about it.

    • i'm a bit of a luggage noob but i believe this is what you're looking for in the product description:

"…With a design that packs a punch, this polycarbonate suitcase is strong…"

      • Thanks for that, would be good if they stated in the specs rather than in a description. Cheers

  • Anyone seen any decent soft shell carry on spinners with outer pockets for a good price recently?

    • I mean, there were just black friday sales on so you've missed out on those. I got the Nere Edit 66cm soft case from Strandbags for $140 but now it's over $200….

  • Bought 2 Antler Juno luggages from Myer during the SB 12.5% cashback + Westpac 10% cashback. Worked out to be around $130-$140 each. Happy with the quality but haven't tested them in travel yet.

  • Exceeds the 158cm for most North American route airlines.

As long as it looks like a normal suitcase all they'll be doing is checking the weight. I don't think I've seen anyone ever actually enforce that rule for anything that isn't obviously oversize.

    • All the luggage in the US is absolutely gigantic lol

      • Not saying it's allowed, but from my experience it always shocked me to see people bring everything and the kitchen sink on carry-on in the US. Pretty much what we'd consider checked cases.

    • My first worry when i bought my suitcase. Never had i been questioned about the size. Always the do i meet the weight requirements. And my suitcase been to asia europe and america.

  • +2

As someone else has mentioned, this seems too heavy—-5.49kg will cut into my baggage weight limit. Are other bags of this size just as heavy?

    • nope, definitely not - blame the polycarbonate. similarly sized polypropylene suitcases by samsonite/american tourist/etc are much, much lighter and were both quite affordable over the black friday weekned.

      • +2

Hmm… in that case, kinda of a deal breaker. Don't want to carry extra weight unnecessarily. I don't care if it doesn't last as long…. I will travel at most once a year, so durability is not a big deal for me.

        • That's not really how it works though. It's not like the material gets worn down or something. Stronger material means it can withstand bigger drops/throws.
