  • How do these compare to like a manual traditional shaver? in terms of closeness?

I have a philips multigroom 5000, and honestly I hate it for anything other then trimming…. I cant get a close shave with it even when using the attachments - I get that its not designed to be a shaver…. so im curious whether these rotatry shavers are better?

    • +1

I can say as somebody who loves Phillips shavers, if you're keen to have a very close shave you're going to be disappointed in any electric shaver. Where they're much better though is in speed, cost, ease of use, reduced waste, and convenience. The shave is "good enough for daily use", but you're not going to achieve a completely smooth result.

      • Are these rotary better then the other style tho?

        • +1

A bit? Most people swear by one of the other, I've mostly used the rotary blade types and when I've tried the foil shavers I've had unsatisfactory results. That said I think it depends on hair type, and most of the time the first few times you use all electric shavers they're a bit rubbish which is why most good brands have return policy so you can try them out properly.

        • I find them worse. I prefer the OneBlade for closeness.

    • I bought the 1200 wet&dry a year ago, 10 years after I gave up on them. Braun had the best close shave but it kept missing facial hair, especially below the jaw line and neck. This was an issue with me, as don't have pointy facial hair growth; they grow parallel to the skin.. Philips will leave only a couple but it won't be a close shave. It'll be satisfactory. The benefit of this we&dry is that I use shaving foam and I avoid the metal mesh rubbing on dry skin and causing me irritation. You can even take it with you in the shower. My only issue is that won't reach in the crevice between the upper lip and the base of the nose. I will use a normal blade in that spot.

  • Been using this line of shavers since about 2000. When they had a model that dispensed shaving cream out the top!
Very trusty. Philips has great customer service.
    Thinking to switch to oneblade

    • +2

Oneblade sucks as a shaver. Would take forever to get a shave as close as what these will do. Takes me 20 minutes to get to the point where it feels like I shaved 12 hours a go. I also rip through a blade a month. It's excellent as a trimmer though.

  • Not sure how this is a bargain.
I bought a Philips 5000 for about $50 from Shavershop just last week.
