Well for one they sell alcohol in Japanese 7-11s. So yeah they are pretty good.
They have beer vending machines in Japan. Japan is just better overall.
Germany too. My hotel in Berlin had a vending machine on each floor of the hotel near the lift, and it had alcohol in it. No proof of age required.

Japanese convenience stores are great in general. They have a fried chicken bar!!! It doesn't get better than that.

Do you think 7-11 is actually losing money from the fuel lock hack? If they really wanted to stop the hack, wouldn't they stop sharing their fuel prices online so sites like https://refinery.fyi can't post them.
I know in QLD, servos are required to report their fuel prices within an hour of them being changed. That info is then scraped by places like PetrolSpy and Refinery.
More underpayments for staff is my best guess
