Benchtop Dishwasher Recommendations for Renter

Recently moved into a rental with no dishwasher/no space for one. I've read mixed things about benchtop dishwashers, but we really don't have a choice, particularly with a baby on the way!

We are presently looking at:

  • Esatto EBTDW2D
  • Devanti Benchtop Dishwasher Freestanding 8 Place Black
  • Omega ODW101W

There don't seem to be many reviews online for any of them…

Wondering if any OzBargainers have bench top dishwashers/ recommend any particular model? Or, if you have bought one recently, which did you choose and why?

Does the kitchen have a sink?

Sure does! But if we can save ourselves one unwanted chore, why wouldn't we?

      • The additional expense.

~$400 to save time and stress in a relationship is worth it to us.

@Flyingpotato: I get it mate. We were in the same situation. We just bought a regular dishwasher off marketplace for $50 and put it in the laundry. Yes its a bit of a hassle taking the dishes there but saves us a lot of time hand washing

It saves water and energy. Over 10 years it probably pays for itself.

Save water believe the TV adds, use the dishwater LUKE.

          Okay stupid pun, but….

I think we know your new landlord.

      *nube

    • Nah that glandlord cut the NBN cable at the said address, so tenants can't spy on him via Ozbargain.

Can't someone wash them by hand?

      Are you offering??

        Jim's Dishes?

        • Haha, there’s a business idea!

    Handwash saves more water

    • False

    • Hand washing only saves more water if you don’t use a full load in the dishwasher. The dishwasher is also more energy efficient at heating the hot water and provides a better cleaning due to higher temperatures.

The only time hand washing is better is if you have very few dishes.

Bob isn't sold here yet but there are 240V versions: https://daan.tech/en/product/bob-mini-dishwasher/

    • Love the design, might be a little too mini though!!

I'm on your side, it's my most essential whitegood. If my washer dies I can go to a laundromat but when my dishwasher faulted I had to hand wash…. uggh!

        • Yep. We recently had around 10 days of handwashing whilst I diagnosed, ordered the part and installed. We put our regular sized dishwasher on around 8 or 9 times a week so handwashing is a pain
          .

    Any room in the laundry?

    • Nope, unfortunately. We only have 42cm next go the washing machine, and the smallest freestanding seem to be 45 cm wide.

is there a skirting board you can remove to give you a few extra mm?

  • what about a full size one in the garage or outside?

  • We got the Domain 6-Place Stainless Steel Benchtop Dishwasher a year ago after my husband and I stayed at a hotel that had a dishwasher and decided that was the life we wanted for ourselves. We've been happy with it ever since! They're sold out on a lot of websites currently, but I did see Catch has the white version still for $419.
We're now on baby #2 and have absolutely 0 regrets investing in a benchtop dishwasher. If anything, we regret not having bought one sooner!

  • I have the same Esatto model you mentioned, works great. Main thing to think about is water connection though, it’s designed to connect to normal washing machine/dishwasher outlet, not a tap. I tried the tap with adapters at first and it was a complete failure, kept leaking as the tap really wasn’t made for it (the attachment point was only made for holding a filter, so think about that first)

Our laundry hangs off our kitchen though and has bench space, so I put it there with a y connector on the laundry tap.

Once that was done, it has been flawless. Dishes come out clean (the odd fork or bowl doesn’t, that’s usually because I put something in wrong), it’s not noisy and the drain hose just runs into the laundry sink. I could feed it straight into the drain, but it’s only temporary until we get around to renovating the kitchen so I haven’t bothered.

Size is really good, full sized bottom rack that holds our large plates better than the proper dishwasher in our last place. Sitting on the bench it doesn’t move or rattle at all. I never put pans in it so I can speak to that, but bowls, plates, glasses, cutlery, tupperware, it’s great.
