Best Monitor for Productivity/Gaming? (Budget $1000)

Over BF sales I've purchased parts for my build, and I'm looking to get a new monitor to compliment. Ideally I'd like the one monitor to be good for work and gaming (4K).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit - No rush to purchase as I currently have a Dell S2721DGF that will suffice until I find a deal on a new one. I'm sure I don't need the best out there. I'd be nice to think I could spend sub $1k on something good enough.

Got the hardware to drive 4k gaming?

2k basically no visual difference and much cheaper to push good FPS

    • A lot of modern games will let you set the overlay of the game to 4K while the game itself runs at a lower resolution. Which is nice, seeing crisp 4K overlay and health bars and stuff, even if your computer can only run the game itself in 1080p or whatever.

  • 3423 Alienware.

  • I use the Dell S3422DWG for gaming and WFH.

2k is fine, more frames better than 4K imo

  • I personally use Acer XB273UGX + ASUS MG279 for everything..

MG279 is from 2015/2016 ish, and XB273UGX from last year. Both mounted on a dual gas spring monitor arm.

Both monitors are 2k high refresh IPS (270hz/144hz). The UGX is hooked up to a KVM switch, so I can bounce between my gaming PC and hackintosh, mg279 hooked directly to hackintosh.

This setup gives me plenty screen space for WFH on the hackintosh, and when gaming I just drag the UGX to center and focus on this single monitor, Hackintosh can still do some OzB browsing with a single monitor, as I have a separate magic touchpad connected to Hackintosh directly.

Keeping both monitors at the same DPI/PPI makes images and scaling consistent. 16:9 + 2k is the gaming sweet spot (no weird aspect ratio issue and not performance demanding like 4k) and 270hz being fast enough for me to not able to blame on my monitor when I suck in games.

you can probably setup something similar,

like 4k144 + 4k60hz on a dual gas spring stand,

or 2k270hz + 2k60hz (or 270hz + 144hz, not much of a point though, fast secondary monitor only gives you a smoother mouse cursor during work……)

I personally don't like 21:9 4k, because this way I get less screen space than my current setup, and the aspect ratio doesn't play nice with certain game. but this is just my personal preference.

  • Order your new Dell now so it will arrive when the existing one is worn out.

  • Just a quick check, we don't have any mini led monitors here in Australia over 30" in the questioned price range?
Ie like the innocn and ktc monitors available in the USA market?l.
