Has Anyone Here Ever Won, or Knows of Anyone That Has Won The Mater Home Lottery

I've noticed that they flog these Lotteries quite often and it feels almost like a business model now rather than providing a charity vehicle for a hospital.

It got me thinking, I wonder who actually wins these lottos and how much oversight there is in the drawing of these?

I wonder who actually wins these lottos

    A mate of the organiser.

  • When Googling a friend, or more like an enemy really, I saw that they had won the home lottery. Or a $30 gift card to a camper store anyway, their name and prize was listed among thousands of other winners.

  • Setting this as a 'poll' is literally pointless.

If you're lucky, the subset of Australians who are both OzBargain users and lottery winners would be one or two at most. Anyone who clicks "I won" is almost certainly doing it for the lols.

Also, half of your 'poll' options are speculative nonsense.

    • So what? What does it matter to you?

Let the man post his poll.

You appear to have mistaken me for someone who has the ability to "let" anyone do anything, or not.

Was surprised to see so many winners. Then I read your post. Now I’m off to click on ‘I won’ too

  • An OzBargainer knowing someone who has won a lottery is as likely as being offered counterfeit notes by all three people who wanted to buy something you are selling.

Would you rather eat a baby goat or a Mater baby

  • Wow, Disney really is desperate.
The Cars series marketing is really scraping the bottom of the barrel to turn to lotteries.
What's next, the Lightning McQueen bingo?

  • Family friend won a BoysTown Lotto maybe 20 years ago or more? Was a massive piece of land in QLD, car and gold bullion.

    I've won 10

  • It's always someone that's 80yo who win these life changing prizes (the irony)

  • I've noticed that they flog these Lotteries quite often and it feels almost like a business model now rather than providing a charity vehicle for a hospital.

I'll give you a hint. The answer is yes, it is a business. The charity aspect of it is a side effect.

how much oversight there is in the drawing of these?

Australia has pretty strict regulations around lotteries IIRC. You can't just "spin one up" and be done with it. There are special computers and programs to do the draws etc.

Not to say things don't get screwy and people manipulate it, but that's life.

Personally I don't partake in these. Especially that infamous one, LMCT or whatever it is. That guy is way too rich for such a short period of time doing essentially the same thing. I keep waiting for the "other shoe" to drop.

    • Australia has pretty strict regulations around lotteries IIR

I had no idea about that when as a kid I'd sell raffle tickets for a non-existent prize door to door.
