lol one can choose not to use the system or use alternative system if one thinks the system doesn't work or is ineffective. First time I've come across an argument for using it but not paying because it's ineffective. This wouldn't work if we walk into a store and take a microwave that is "ineffective" and stated we won't pay until it's the best in class?

        • So is he under arrest or what?

    • Myki is in the worst in Australia let alone in the world.

Still havent got working on all phones to tap on and credit card. Opal shits all over it. Cards expire and you have to pay for a physical card.

Even if Mary is correct, she over reacted. Like when my friend wanted to burn his house down because of a spider in the shower.

Side Note / Rant: I don't catch PT anymore, but would be happy to have it 100% funded via tax. This would be more efficient because:
    1. Fire all the ticket enforcement officers.
    2. No need to pay for the maintenance of Myki or buying whatever the next abomination is.
    3. If it even slightly increases the number of PT commuters, that reduces traffic on the roads.
    4. Actually getting on/off the train would be quicker since people don't have to funnel through the myki barriers
    5. There are probably other costs / overheads, like customer support, bank fees, shipping out plastic cards, Google/Apple wallet fees, etc.

    • Would like to see the numbers for revenue they get for fares versus contract to myki/whoever, maintenance etc

I would like to as well, and I haven't seen it. The numbers would also need to include the cost to build it in the first place divided by the years in operation.

I remember it took forever to roll out, was buggy/broken (I stayed on metcard as long as I could as it was actually faster to go through than to wait for the Myki to read when first rolled out), and it cost a fortune.

In the (paraphrased) words of the philosopher Lebowski - "You're not wrong Mary, you're just an (profanity)."

    Team Mary on this one

Sure it was a bit gruff but everyone on the tram and all the votes here reflect society’s broader DGAF attitude.

Polite society has to start somewhere.

If I don’t feel like paying my rates can I just ignore them?
School zones? Not for me thanks

GG everyone I do (or don’t do) what I want

  • On one hand, you need people like this to call out the bad behaviour of others as most will just turn a blind eye making the problem worse. On the other hand, this is one of the thing that most annoys me about our society. People think that being right also gives them the right to be a prick to someone else. You see this everywhere, even on Ozbargain. It's really just an excuse to vent about your frustrations with life. I'm going to go with Mary is wrong from her over the top reaction.

  • Mary would have been happier had she minded her own business. Instead, she was miserable and she spread that misery around.

She didn't know whether the passenger needed to touch on. She just went by her assumption to release her stocked up emotions on a stranger. Regardless of my ticket status, I'm the kind of person who wouldn't utter a word Mary if she spoke to me like that. I'd treat her as air and let her release her steam.

Also ticket inspectors exist for a reason.

When Keeping it real goes Wrong

bet Mary wouldnt try that on other groups…

  • Didn't look into this but it sounds like the sort of story Channel 9 or 7 would want to run as a national headline.

Haven't tuned into mainstream media since 2017 so I don't catch these breaking news items anymore.
