Six Monitor Video Card Recommendation - CAD/MS Office

Hi all

I have been using an intel arc 750 but the software keeps glitching and I finally have had to remove it from the machine.

I have a full ATX tower and I may as well upgrade to six monitors - anyone know of good video card which can do six? I don't need to do gaming really, just CAD and lots of MS Office/PDFs.

cheers,

  • I get a feeling to do 6 monitors, you are going to need two video cards.

    • Ah motherboard is Pro Z690-A WIFI so plenty of PCIe slots.

Can do no problem - sounds like the answer?

      • I think so, at least it is going to be dedicated hardware and not relying on USB to do your additional monitor hardware etc via a dock or similar.

  • Does your motherboard and CPU have integrated GPU? Check the manual to see if it supports video output when a discrete GPU is used: more than likely you should be able run 4 displays off the discrete card and 2 off the iGPU.

If not you might need to install two video cards.

Matrox is kind of the king of serious high-performance multi-monitor GPU's, but there are kind of pricey. (e.g Matrox C680) and there are some workstation cards (AMD FirePro W600) that also do 6 displayports at once, but being workstation-grade they are also eye wateringly expensive.

So nothing to stop me running up to eight with 1 x ARC 750 and say 1 X Nvidia Card?

That would be excellent as when the ARC 750 glitches I am just back to four monitors?

I do have integrated graphics on the Pro Z690 though, which I am currently using after I pulled the freezing intel A750….so I probably should put the A750 back in and see if I can run at least one monitor off the integrated graphics and that would allow me to still control the machine when the intel graphics goes haywire?

      Much appreciated. cheers

  • For Nvidia Professional Workstation graphic cards, they seem to max out at 4 displays.

  • Nvidia and AMD have pro cards for CAD with certified drivers. You have to go back a generation or two to get a 6 output card and then they still cost a mint. DP can daisychain so with the right monitors you may only need 4 outputs. Two cards could also be an option one for cad and a general purpose one.

Are you trying to run 6 4k monitors or just 6 monitors? Is it physical or pixel real estate you are after. 4k is the equivalent to 4 fhd monitors so a 43" 4k monitor is both the same size and same pixel density as 4 22" monitors and there maybe 8k monitors out there.

    • Mainly real estate - I work with very complex 600 dpi PDFs - often a few thousand pages.

Also use Navisworks and CAD, but most graphics seem sufficient for this.

  • An external dock such as a Dell would give you 2 or 3 monitors (normally 2 DP and 1 HDMI from memory), and is a lot less than a video card.

    • Thanks, have not had much luck with these - tend to fail and fault frequently!!
