[Unobtainable] Free Play Weekend 9/12 - 10/12: COD MW3, FC24 & NBA 2K24 @ PlayStation Store

Moved to Forum: Original Link

This deal was incorrectly tagged as a "freebie" by the deal poster and under the assumption that users can download and run the games without owning them.

See Sony's Blog post for more info. https://blog.playstation.com/2023/12/04/get-ready-playstatio…

Free Online Multiplayer Weekend

Get ready for another online multiplayer weekend, starting December 9 at 12:01am through December 10 at 11:59pm local time. Online multiplayer is available without a PlayStation Plus membership during this time, so players can go head-to-head or play alongside other players online.

The original deal description is as follows.

As per Gamingbible article. They state no PS+ is required to play as well. I imagine multipayer modes will need PS+ however.

I wonder if the weekend will finish first or the download for cod

    • +3

Or if people got enough SSD space left lol.

      • +1

OzB SSD deals sorted me out

    • -1

I think downloading the COD HQ might help? Not too sure though

  • -6

fifa 24 is the only good game in that list.

    • +11

Did you mean the fifa 2014 dlc update?

      • wow no one likes fifa lol must be COD people only here.

        • Tbh i was here to flick my BiL the nba details, but as repetitive as COD gets at least they try diff maps, game modes, tweak (and break) gun stats etc from year to year.
EA literally changes the skins and updates the rosters for fifa (and most sports games nowadays) there’s been nothing different or engaging for over a decade. It shouldn’t cost as much as a AAA game as its not supported or developed the same except to jam in microtransactions, you cant even grind for your upgrades like COD, which at least lets you if you don’t want to ‘pay to win’.

  • +4

Looking forward to all of the COD n00bs joining multiplayer

    • Can’t wait to make some sweats rage quit 😂

    • +2

COD never changes is the same sh$% every version in multiplayer.

  • Does COD have a campaign?

    • It's like 2 hours lol.

      • +2

        Perfection

  • -1

Just play MWII it's quite literally the same game

    • +1

      It really isn't though.

      • +2

You're right, it's a severe downgrade from both MWII and MW 2019

  • +3

Are we sure the single player components of these games are free during the event? It sounds like it's a promo to encourage signups to PlayStation Plus. I'd be keen to play COD campaign for free but I'm sceptical.

The official event name is "Free Online Multiplayer Weekend" according to Sony. In fact it doesn't even seem clear that those three games are anything other than suggestions. My read on it is online multiplayer is free for all games that you already own… Could be wrong.

From the article: "This weekend, and this weekend only, NBA 2K24, EA Sports FC24 and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be downloadable and playable at no additional cost. They’re not the most exciting titles, as the reviews for all three have been less than ideal, but they’ll be free so we really can’t complain."

Can't say if the article is correct or not, but that's what it says.

      • +3

Yeah, I'm suss that it's bad "journalism".

        This is direct from Sony:

        Free Online Multiplayer Weekend
        (No PlayStation Plus membership required)

        December 9, 2023 – December 10, 2023

Get ready for another online multiplayer weekend, starting December 9 at 12:01am through December 10 at 11:59pm local time. Online multiplayer is available without a PlayStation Plus membership during this time, so players can go head-to-head or play alongside other players online."

The accompany promo image with the three games has fine print that even says "for PS5 and PS4 games with an online mode".

        • +1

I imagine this just means players that own these titles can play them online without PS Plus and little more than that.

    • +3

It would make sense if the campaign were off limits, since it could be completed entirely within this window.

    • That's what i'm curious about too. I play Cod games exclusively for the campaign, online isn't for me. Despite the apparent issues with the campaign on this, I'd still like to give it a go.

    • Yeah, I'm assuming you are correct. There is no way the Campaign for MWIII would be free for a weekend. Plus, there is zero info from Sony or any other reliable source.

That being said … I am really, really, really hoping we are wrong!

  • Do you retain the games after the weekend? I assume not..

    • No.

    • -1

the downloaded content yes, but you will loose access.

  • +2

I've never paid for PS+ … (prefer single play exp)

This allows me to finally get the Gran Turismo 7 online trophy for free though hehehe

    • I play exclusively single player, but pay for PS+ due to all the included games. Definitely saves me money in the long run, plus the convenience of always having something to play.

  • Any way to get a headstart on the MW3 download?

  • too expansive

  • if campaign is included that’ll be it 🫡

  • Can't see the option anywhere on my ps5?

    • Ditto, can't seem to find anything about it on my PS5.

I wonder if it is not applicable to AU?

Or if it only starts when the US timezone start their weekend?

  • +4

Ermm, it’s a free online multiplayer weekend.

NBA, FC and COD will not be free to download if you don’t already own them.

This article is incorrect and is typical algorithm-manipulating clickbait and posts like this should really be checked.

    • thanks!

    • For real? What's the point then? They used to do full free weekends so we could try games before we buy them.

  • +3

Free multiplayer only… the deal is that you don't need PS plus to play online, still require the games.
