Unlock new joy in life

Wi-Fi connection, smart life under control

Intuitive fingerprint unlock
Mute by "0" button

Allow one grip to unlock
Adopted the integrated handle design with an FPC semiconductor fingerprint, the fingerprint recognition speed of Philips DDL603E-5HWS is less than 0.5 s. Pressing down the handle allows one grip to unlock and brings you a fast and intuitive opening experience.

Leave a quiet place for the family
The "0" button is used both as a digit button and a mute button. Long press the "0" button for 2 seconds to enable the mute mode no matter you are in or out. Without disturbing your family at night, the thoughtful design allows you to get back home in a quiet manner, which leaves a quiet place for the family.

Ensure home secure and eliminate risk while away

Does Bunnings provide installation service 🤔

    • +2

      Yes but it's not free.

      • Great thanks Let me check with them .

        • +5

Get one off air tasker, just make sure they have done similar locks before or they will end up butchering your door.

          • @Ifndefx: It is expensive from bunnings! How much was it for the installation from Airtasker, if you are willing to share?

    • +6

If I add "Installation" at check out for this product, I get charged an extra $109 (discounted from $199) so it is total of $358 installed.

Oddly though, if I choose the "Installation Service" option from top of the website (https://lp.digitaldoorlocks.com.au/mysmartlocks-installation…), choose my area of Melbourne then this model, I get a quote for $299 excl GST.

So it looks like a good packaged installation deal to me.

    • -2

Anone can install a door lock its pretty basic. Watch installation of this or any other on YT.

  • +8

Firstly , I have repaired many many Bunnings installs
They used to hire locksmiths back in the day, now they hire who ever offers the cheapest.

Philips locks are also mediocre, they are rebranded crap

    I don’t like digital locks , but that’s me

    • +11

Digital locks can be a massive convenience boost. Added security, and control. Most home locks are terrible anyway.

      • +6

Definitely if I'm carrying a baby and some groceries I am not trying to fumble with keys, I don't think I could go back to a non digital lock.

If someone wanted to get an any home neither smart or dumb lock is going to keep them out.

      • Digital locks are the best .. specially the ones with no key holes to pick.. not every thief can hijack the home wi fi but every thief can pick a pin and tumbler lock if the lock has a key hole to allow for a pick ..Not sure about these Philips units but Lockify units seem to be positively reviewd specially by the lock picking lawyer you tube channel.. I have 2 one at the main entrance and one in the garage and they have made life so much easier for me without having to look for keys .. There are shortcomings of course, the battery dying is one while you are away and miss the alarm given out by the lock but that can be resolved with a CR2 3v Battery ..with the Lockify ..I am sure with these as well, second is your phone gets hacked.. I do not use the phone app or voice command.. I just use the number pad or the finger print sensor and no the touch screen will not reveal the code because the numbers are randomly clustered … talking about Lockify in particular .. digital locks are waay better in my experience

        • +26

You think that home break ins are done by skilled thieves who have carefully honed their manual lockpicking skills? Or by some guy with a brick?

          • +16

@rumblytangara: Pretty sure criminals work in teams now, a skilled thief, a hacker, a brute and a planner aka the brains of the team.

          • +2

@rumblytangara: I gotta get my tool
            That's not a tool. That's a damn brick

          • +1

@rumblytangara: Never seen a guy with a brick break in anywhere.. most addicts learn how to pick locks ..In Oz most break ins are done by desparate addicts not by people wanting to get rich .. these guys do not stand a chance with digital locks.. and yes .. they are very conversant with picking locks.. anything that needs keys can be picked

            • +1

              @shaidas:

most addicts learn how to pick locks

most burglary cam footage I've seen is of thieves walking through an unlocked door.. if it's locked they go to the next house, get in through a window, cut a hole in the flyscreen, angle grinders on locks etc. I've never seen a burglary from picked locks.

              • @xmail: Lazy criminals using battery angle grinders, few years back they just used a jimmy or crowbar.

        • +7

Digital locks without a key override are the worst of the worst.
They were initially pushed as a digital solution when you had another mechanical way into that room or home if the lock failed.
The Lockwood Cortex is a famous one, $800 odd for a lock that has a non-override option.. lunacy

Also picking locks is maybe 2% of break-ins.
Most break-ins these days are doors being left open or forcing the lock/handle.
This is where my disdain for digital locks comes into play.
Most digital locks like the above have a solid spindle that when enough pressure is put on the handle breaks through and opens, even some of the Bunnings/walmart style locks have protection mechs that when enough force is made it opens to protect the lock/latch ( pretty sure it was Kwikset)

I have seen footage of people walking up to digital locks with the hotdog handles, like above, straight and thin with a piece of hollow pipe, put it around the lever and lean every so slightly and the door opens.

Deadbolt and clutching lever set is the go, it's what's on my doors and I sleep easy knowing someone will need to almost knock the walls down to get in ..
or as the other fellow said above… use a brick hahah

          • +1

@DJN: Good for you mate..as long as you sleep easy thats all that matters

          • @DJN: Can you pick a dead bolt?

        • Many digital locks can be opened by simply using a strong magnet to move the mechanism taht turns the lock.

Instread of the computer turning the bolt, you can do the same with a magnet.

Dont believe watch lockpitlawyer on YT doing this.

    • +3

Philips locks are also mediocre, they are rebranded crap

What's the story here? I thought Philips make their own stuff. The whole listing is written in Chinglish, which seems (to me anyway) to indicate that not only did Philips not 'make' the product, they couldn't even spend time to update the marketing text.

      • +7

Most of the digital locks come from the same factory in Jiangsu province in China.
They get shipped around China and rebranded and resold.
McGrath Locks in Australia is a company that claimed they designed their digital locks and were found to have branded crappy Chinese locks and added 800% markup.

Digital locks have a purpose, I'm a Locksmith and tech head… you would think that I would have digital locks all around my home, i don't.

There was a heated discussion a few months back on another digital lock post, in the end, there are not too many digital locks that I would 100% be satisfied with.

Maybe the closest would be the Schlage Omnia…

        • Most of the digital locks come from the same factory in Jiangsu province in China.

I get this makes sense for the 'traditional' lock companies (yale, schlage etc) but what about the Samsung ones for example? surely at least they design and manufacture their own models?

          • +7

@andresampras: They do, when the company who initially brought the Samsung digital locks to Oz came to us asking for advice/partnership the locks only spoke in Korean.
The locks were amazing, they were the locks that were fitted to all the Government buildings, we sold some but couldn't tell clients that they had to watch a dubbed YouTube video to set it up.

Anyway, when they tried to get them fire-rated for this market the company had to spend 40k and also supply 8 units for the fire-rating company to do testing, they didn't pay and the locks never returned.

A few years later, the new range of digital locks we see today arrived on the market, the cheaper ones were/are Indian made and the more robust/premium ones were/are Chinese/Malaysian and Korean-made.

I am not a fan of the Samsung locks, if you have a home that is open to the elements or has heavy use, they look terrible and slow down a lot.

If you're serious about digital locks, find one that uses an everyday high-quality lock and has the digital locking component work in conjunction with the lock..
The Schlage Omnia is a perfect example of that, the Lockwood Cortex with key overide is also a nice one.

            • +1

@DJN: Thanks for the detailed info, appreciate it

            • @DJN: This is good info - I was thinking of Schlage Encode Plus for my main door due to its integration with the apple ecosystem. Are they any good?

            • @DJN: both those locks are more pricey that most of my inside valuables so they're just going to steal my Schlage hehe

              • @philmarcracken: more pricey than your kidneys? fo'realllllll?

get outta town! (so we can see your inside valuables without interference)

            • +1

@DJN: I imported a Samsung digital lock from Korea 11 years ago. The builder couldn't fit it so i was left to using the crappy YouTube videos but did so successfully. I've loved the convenience of this look but it hasn't done so well in the sun. I'm looking to replace it but I just haven't found one I like yet. Interesting comments here and I'll start researching more now.

          • +1

@andresampras: My Yale electronic lock is a rebadged Korean product.

        • not too many digital locks that I would 100% be satisfied with

          You don't rate Lockly ?

      • +1

The "real" Philips only sells medical equipments. Everything else is either spin offs or license deals. Philips Lights are made by Signify, Home appliences are made by Versuni (both spin offs). Everything else eg, TV, cables and the rest is just branded Philips.

    • Looks exactly like the Tuya X1-V5050 which i've had on my front door for 3 years and i love it. As an FYI i think i got it for half this price and it wasn't on sale.
I would never go back to a regular lock. The kids don't need to worry about carrying/losing the key. We can let people in by giving them a passcode or an extra fob.
The only issue i've had is when it's cold and the sun starts to warm up the lock, the pressure must cause the buttons to press so you can hear it beeping as if someone is pressing the buttons on some mornings. It doesn't cause it to lock us out and it doesn't open, it just beeps. Usually lasts for a few seconds then ends.

      • you can hear it beeping as if someone is pressing the buttons

there is another 4 companies in that page who sell the same item

Then … perhaps you should have linked to one of those 🤔

          • -3

@photonbuddy: Perhaps ill hold your hand?

            • -1

              @DJN:

              Perhaps ill hold your hand?

If you're going to go to the effort to try and show up a bargain poster here, the least you could do is link to an item we could actually buy, instead of being lazy.

Clearly, though, that's too much to ask for!

              • @photonbuddy: I think the point was more to show the real price of this "bargain" rather than suggesting an alternate product to buy. It's the same product, different skin, but only $35.

                • @xmail:

It's the same product, different skin, but only $35.

So … not the same product 🤣 It's $35, but might as well be $35,000, because in either case, it's not deliverable here.

Doesn't change the fact that if you're going to link to an alternate product, make sure to link to something we can actually buy.

                  It's just pointless otherwise.

                  • @photonbuddy: It is pointing out that this $400 lock is a rebranded generic $35 chinese lock, there are numerous other distributors of the same lock. It may be a different 'product' from the end customers point of view, but from the point of view of the factory pumping these out with the selected skin of their customer, it's the same product. It's your decision if you think it's worth paying someone $250 for a Philips logo and getting stock for a $35 lock - he was just giving you that information.

                    • @xmail:

but from the point of view of the factory pumping these out with the selected skin of their customer, it's the same product.

Just because it's from the same factory doesn't mean it's the same.

Most of the no-name brand stuff that Colesworth sells comes from the same factory as the big name brands, yet the big name brands still exist.

I remember hearing a stat years ago, that Verbatim, the bastion of high quality floppy disks (I did say years ago!), kept just 3% of their production, because that's all that met their quality standard. The rest ended-up as tier 2 or 3 floppy disks.

Sounds like you're the type that would buy the bottom 5% at 1/10th the price "because it came from the same factory."

Of course, that's not to say that the unit on offer is in the top 3%, and the aliexpress unit is in the bottom 5%, but as a consumer, we just don't know.

    • I don't know why you got negged.

  • Does anyone know of a digital lock which triggers slave locks, so you can effectively have a triple lock (middle/top/bottom of the door) operated from the middle lock? Google is not very friendly on this.

    • +3

Sounds a bit dangerous — if your main lock gets hacked, the slave locks prove useless. Better to get two independent door locks, and if the two handles aren’t turned at precisely the same time, your robot sentry unleashes their mean streak

    • I wouldn't trust digital to keep my slaves locked away

  • +2

I installed Aqara A100 by my mate and myself, took us 7 hours with a mortice jig set…First smart lock I have ever installed but I'd rather get someone to do it if I knew it is gonna take that long.

    • Yeah but aqara is a pain in the ass to install, I had one and installed it as well. But that may have been your first time, I installed a mija lock on my other door and it was done in a couple of hours. I think it was because I learnt what to do with the aqara.

    • I installed the lockly one, it was pretty straight forward. Bought the door installation kit from bunnings that has all the required drill bits and templates

  • +1

" The Philips DDL603E-5HWS has an emergency power supply Micro-USB interface, which allows charging by the output voltage of 5V power bank."

Just wondering where someone is going to find powerbank with micro usb in an emergency from ?

Some of the better ones lets you use a 9v battery in an emergency.

    • +2

I have heaps of power banks and micro usb cables but no 9v batteries in my house.

    • Just keep a cable or adapter in the car?

Alot of phones do reverse charging now too so you don't need to carry a power bank

  • Does anyone know if this can be fitted to a crimesafe screen door with the 3 latch system?

    • Maybe yes?

      It says:

      Door Type
      Antitheft door

But not enough information. Just antitheft door.

    • On the crim safe screen itself, probably not. The door has to be a certain thickness, which I doubt the crimsafe would have.

If you mean on the door whcih will be behind the crimsafe screen, then you need to check the available space between door and crimsafe. When I installed an aqara a100 it wasn't enough and i had to reframe to push out the screen.

    • Went through this a while ago. Most locks are to wide for the stile and the doors to thin. Only 2 locks i found were the Yale Unity screen door lock and Ultra Secua screen door lock. Both support 3 latch systems.

    • I was able to self install a Yale Unity screen door lock on ours… couldn’t find anything else on the market that was suitable at the time

      • I was close to going with the Yale but was hoping for something with fingerprint and built in WIFI.

But may have to end up with the Yale and will look into the Ultra Secura as havent heard of this one before

        • I got the Yale for $306 and it’s fair value at that price but I would have been disappointed if I was paying much more. I like the Auto Unlock/lock feature and convenience when your hands are full.

I hadn’t seen the Ultra before and it looks like good value so will be interested to hear your thoughts on what it’s like if you do go down that path.

        • Do you need a power source for the Wi-Fi? Or they are generally battery powered?

  • +3

bunnings has removed the door lock rather than price match it ?

    • +2

Bunnings have been sneaky of late. Quite a few times I've noticed I can only find a product on their website if I search for the exact product name. Search the category it's in and it doesn't show.

No Fire rating so can't be used in apartments. Micro USB, yuck in 2023

    • Any suggested fire rated smart locks?

  • Any screendoors come with a good digital lock?

  • Anyone knows if bunnings still have and will beat it?

  • Can’t seem to find any reviews on these- anyone had better luck?

  • Thank OP I just made the purchase. This lock was in bunnings 3 or 4 months ago but it was out of my price range so didn't spend much time looking at it. There is going to be some work to install it but I am a handyman so not to bothered by it.

    • Did you manage to Pricebeat? Or they already Pricematched the price so they won't need to?

      • +1

I tried calling my local bunnings and they can't price match since there is none in stock. Not surprised at all that is why I always laugh about the 10% because they know 99% it can't be used. Bought from the site $264 including delivery I am happy with the deal because the one that I wanted to buy in bunnings was a bit over $400 and this one has exactly the same features it's a brand name I know they just licence the name but you hope they have very good quality control as it's their name. Now just hopefully it arrives by Christmas.

  • Is this type of smart lock easy to update from a mortise lock?

Or need to find a similarly sized mortise lock?

  • -1

I bet there's a LOT of SMART people on this website about to buy this.
Does this come with hand sanitizer? Or maybe a few rolls of TP??
