Amazon Refund without Requesting - after Item Delivered

This morning received an email saying;

Refund Confirmation
Hello Mechz,
We’ve received the item below and have issued your refund. Thank you for sending the item back. Your return is now complete.

Thing is, Aus Post delivered the item, with tracking, to my mailbox a few days ago. It came from Amazon UK.

The email definitely isn't an error as they have already refunded the gift card portion to my account.

Is anyone else seeing these come through?

Also, I know it's been slightly covered before here but this is the other way around.

Looks like the item was delivered outside the window, sometimes amazon automatically refunds an order if it takes too long to get it delivered.

    • I thought it was quick, ordered around Cyber Monday and arrived Tuesday this week.

You need to add a poll to get the masses opinion on your moral obligations.

    • Maybe they're worried it's some weird scam or something, or a mistake that could get their account banned.

That's what worries me a bit, because a lot of people do try and scam the system by saying not recieved or a lesser item etc etc. Then Amazon close their accounts because they see the ruse.

      But that won't make cents.

    Do nothing. Free Item!

And play dumb. Free item indeed!

Amazon is pretty free with their refund polices.

They routinely take the view that the postage and staff time involved in processing returns isn't worth the meager leftover cents they'd gain in chasing them, particularly when not making a fuss is good customer relations and improves loyalty. It's one of many good reasons to use Amazon. Be happy with your free item.

Post it as a deal with 100% cashback.

  • I guess the bonus is I can use my gift card again for my ritual gift-to-self without having to resort to paying with pictures of spiders.

I contacted Amazon support, and they said……

    • Why would I ruin a good thing? Just wondering if it's a more widespread issue given the Black/Cyber sales recently.

  • Start the car.
