Help with Qantas Status Run

Hi there. I was wondering if anyone could help me with ideas for a Qantas status credit run please?

I believe it helps with some creative routing and some via Gold Coast that I have read before but can't see to find searching old posts. I am Perth based so it is a little more tricky but thought perhaps I could get to east coast using points and then do a status run on the east coast/to NZ/Bali or other. I need 160 status credits by the end of January 24.

Thank you.

Thank you. I did see this but it doesnt really go into the domestic detail that i was interested in, e.g. the route trick involving OOL that I was intersted in or other similar domestic.tricks wasnt really discussed.

      • I'm sure it will be somewhere in the forums, just hard work to find…

        • Yeah i tried to search

10 pages of results just for OOL in the Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options Thread.

Is it to get to Platinum 1? Or Platinum at least? Burning points to get from Perth to east coast just to do a paid status run to get to Gold is not prudent.

        • Great thanks so much

  • Not sure what the best options are out of Perth, but the last time I organised one on the east coast Jetstar was the most cost-effective option - just make sure you book it in the class which earns QFF status (the top 'Max' one I think).

I would look at maybe PER-MEL-BNE return on Jetstar or something like that.

    • Thanks very much, ill look into this

  • +1

This is the absolute worst time of year to book a status run, you are not gonna be able to find anything remotely good value at the height of peak season with such little notice.

That being said if you are willing to pay a little bit more and fly Jetstar there are some options from Perth.

I would suggest booking 2 return trips on Jetstar to the east coast and paying extra for the MAX bundles. That will give you exactly 160 SC. The cheapest flights I can find seem to be to Cairns (makes sense as it's low season there) but if there were any other places you wanted to visit I would just play around with dates and find something convenient for you.

    • Took another look, and found an option that was a bit cheaper.

PER-DPS-SIN-DPS-PER all Jetstar with Max bundles. You might have to book PER-DPS-PER and DPS-SIN-DPS separately.

From what I can see it's $1200ish for 160SC but you would likely have to book it within the next few days

      • Yeah agreed it is the worst time of year. Thank you very much I'll look into these options

  • I can't help but think status runs are very environmentally unhelpful. What fripperies will they give you for your status? Don't mean to judge but it's a great marketing exercise isn't it? Encouraging you to take flights you don't need?

  • Misread title as “Help with Santa’s Qantas run”.
If that was the case no one would get anything for Xmas

  • The idea of spending $1200 to claw yourself to the next level (or maintain what you have) makes no sense. The only tangible benefit is lounge access and even that isn't worth it. You're better off spending $100 on a great meal at the airport over the next 12 flights in 2024 than risk it with Death Star on this pan-Asian goose chase.

    • I tend to agree, but there are a few exceptions where it might be worth doing.

If you genuinely enjoy flying and travel, status runs can be thoroughly enjoyable and treated more as a hobby expense.

Or, if you have the time to make it a small holiday.

I cant really see any scenarios where it would be worth doing for status benefits alone, a year of lounge access can also be purchased for way less than $1200.
