Electric Ride on Mowers Too Expensive?

I thought by now electric ride on mowers, specifically lithium varieties would be closer to ICE mowers in price but nowhere near it….Been waiting a couple of years for the price to come down but if anything prices seem to be going up! Will prices come down in the next 2-5 years?

Bunnings cheapest ride on mowers;

  • Ego ride on brah

    • Saw that the other day. Looked pretty cool. Not sure on build quality/longevity. $9.5k

      • It looks pretty good from the videos I’ve seen
Got a good customer who loves his and always shows me videos of his random late night mows on acreage with the inbuilt headlights and quiet mowing

With the state of California (population 40M) on track to ban ICE gardening equipment (under 25HP) in 2024, this will drive up volumes resulting in more product development and eventually lower prices which should flow globally. If you're price sensitive, stick with ICE for now. If you already own an EV, go for a battery ride-on.

I am with you. Been thinking of an electric ride on, but just too expensive. I was looking at the cub cadet lithium model, but was $6000

There doesn't seem to be many around, so no competition. Hopefully as they become the norm, competition will drive the price down.

Until then I will continue to mow by hand with the electronic push mower.

196cc ride on mower? My push mower is 196cc!

And a 24" deck. Hardly meets the definition of a legit ride on mower. It's a push mower with a seat and steering wheel.

Why not strap multiple self propelled push mowers together and set up a chariot type arrangement?

    • A modern-day Prometheus!

  • Does Ryobi have a good range of spare parts?
I've got a 42" John Deere with 400 hours on it and once a year I am buying spares, partly because I am a bit rough with it
spare parts portal allows you to find the part number (although a bit slow to load for me)

They wont get cheaper over the next few years, especially those with lithium batteries.

They also wont undercut ICE mowers for a long time. ICE mowers sell at much greater volumes & they have had far longer to optimise costs. Plus input costs for making electric equivalents are rising faster than ICE options.

EV ride on mower seems really environmentally destructive.

Go green, buy a sheep. They're particularly cheap at the moment, too.

  • It’s early adopter phase for these. They’ll command a price premium until they are more mainstream, especially as the demand for ICE stuff drops and EV mower rises.

  • You could always borrow some of these off someone while you wait for them to come down.
