    Use case?

Seeing who dealt it. It's not always the man who said the rhyme that did the crime.

Checking house for thermal leaks, drafts. Finding overheating electronic components. Spotting possums? There are two left, so if you aren’t sure, leave them for somebody who needs one at this extremely good price.

    Micro USB yikes

      $88 thermal yikes.

It's a pretty shitty camera. Way too much noise. Bought for $176 last year and returned. But at $88 guess ok to play around with.

    • Have you used a FLIR or similar? They are all extremely low resolution.

      • +3

The seek sensor is known for its noisy output compared to FLIR or Chinese bolometers.

The best budget pick of thermal imaging are those that use the Infiray tiny0 256x192 core, there are many on AliExpress. Some like the Hikmicro Pocket even do the visual edge detection/embossing like FLIR MSX.

        • Does these thermal imaging able to see cold water leaking/dripping. ?

          • +1

@a1234my: it shows temperature as a pixel, so if the cold water has a temperature difference to the surroundings then it would show up on this.

          • @a1234my: I am also looking for this.

          • +1

@a1234my: Yes, they even pick up damp creeping behind/through walls, and tiny temperature differences between where the studs are in the wall vs. a void or insulation.

        • Good enough for looking for drafts/ ceiling insulation checks?

    • It is still a 200x150 afterall, should outperform entry level FLIR 80x60 sensors I guess?

      • +1

Sort of, also check the NETD (lower is better). There is a thermal imaging forum on eevblog that has heaps of info and tests of just about anything on the market.

FLIRs have some pretty impressive image processing going on with them, but the new Chinese sensors on the market are showing just how old and dated the low end FLIR sensors are.

    • which phone did you use ? would it work with a Xiaomi MI4 and I plan to use Seek thermal APK 2.3.0 latest version

Any from aliexpress that works fine?

    • I picked up a cheap Mileseey TR256 smartphone imager on black Friday. It has the Infiray core I mentioned earlier.

They also have a trigger style one.

If you are after a pocket camera type the Hikmicro Pocket 2 is hands down the best available at the moment.

      • How much was the Black Friday price?

  • Was tempted to buy but glad it sold out as it stopped an impulse buy. Hopefully they drop below $50

wonder if it could pinpoint fish in the water

    • Not fish under the surface.

  • I've had fun playing around with it for the past couple of days. A couple of clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Myej_TDzQdU

Got mine today. Works well with Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Seek thermal 2.3.0 APK (latest version sideloaded). Captures photos and videos. I used without enabling data or WIFI. Really good deal!
