Recommendations for a Robovac - First Time Owner?

Never owned one before.

Interested in:
- vacuum and mop function
- self-disposal
- at two price points:
1. value for money $~200
2. value for money $1000+

Not fussed about security/privacy as I've already sold my soul to Google.

Is there an OzB go-to?

What ones have you whittled it down to during your research?

    • Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

This one's not a mop-combo, but was recommended from WireCutter:
      iRobot Roomba i4+ evo

  • imo dont deal with panmi - and dont go for the viomi s9 - i got swept up in the fomo of a few well reviewed bargain threads for it and got burnt with a **** experience with after sales service. also a very unhelpful rep from panmi.

If you want mopping feature and self disposal, then you're in the top of the range models.

All the 'cheaper' ones need you to clean the pads after each mop, empty the waste tanks and fill them up etc.

Go the whole hog, get the self cleaning one with the big water tanks on board so you only have to deal with them once a week.

    • Roborock S8 Pro Ultra then?

      • Basically….

Otherwise its one of those strange things that you have to come home each day and pull the vac apart to wash the pad, change the water etc.

So its is this really much easier?

  • What floor surfaces are you requiring cleaning and what size area?

    • Mostly hardwood, some vinyl in the wet areas, including kitchen.

Size area? Good question, I'd say < 100 sqm, single-storey, no levels.

      • I've got the Roborock S7 and it does hardwood at an area of 90sqm just fine.

With the mopping aspect, mine starts off with a full reservoir of water and will finish with say about 10% left. The water refill is manual such that 100sqm might be its limit for mopping.

I've had other Roborocks too and the vibra-vibration thingy for the mopping function makes the difference for me with the S7.

  • Based on what you said above about the floors and area, I think the Q7 Max+ is value for money.

Don't bother with any robot ~$200. They're junk.

    • So going for the S8 Pro Ultra is overkill?

      • I think so, for your needs. If you had more carpet, the S8 Pro Ultra would be better.

  • I’ve had the Roborock Q Revo for a couple of months and absolutely love it. Saves you so much time and energy throughout the week and surprisingly the floors are cleaner than they’ve ever been. It’s biggest weakness is apparently obstacle avoidance, with things like cables on the ground. Our house is fairly neat most of the time, but it’s been fine for us. The P10 Pro (not available yet) sounded awesome with some new features and specs but now I don’t think the Q Revo needs to be any better.

I would recommend watching some of the reviews by Vacuum Wars on Youtube, they're pretty informative

  • We got the S7 plus about this time last year, so far so good. Much better than the ecovacs we had previously.

  • Deebot X2 Omni

    • My only strong recommendation is to get one with mapping, but most of them have that by now.
    • I find LIDAR works better than camera based navigation, but that might also vary from house to house.
    • I have had great experiences with the Roborock/Xiaomi series. Our current one is several years old and works well.
    • You may find you need to do some "adjustment" to cables, rearrangement of furniture etc. to help them work their best.
  • What one did you buy? Are you happy with it? My hubby accidentally killed my Dyson stick, so I’m wondering if I should go for one of these now.
