C & D cell rechargeable batteries?

Hi guys, well we an addition to the family coming soon and I thought I'd get one step ahead and buy all the rechargeable batteries now. So I'm getting 16 Eneloop AA's and 16 Eneloop AAA's and a nice Maha Powerex MH-C808M to keep them all charged, 8 at a time…

Where the plan has come unstuck is, I'm finding it very difficult to source quality C & D cell batteries. They exist and Amazon has plenty however none of which ship to Australia (Maha PowerEX/Imedion, Tenergy etc)

Whilst I have found said brands in some Aussie online stores the prices are 3X that of Amazon. Jaycar have their own but also about 2X the price. eBay has some no namers which I'm reluctant to trust from poor previous experiences.

So what rechargeables are people using? Energizers? Expensive and poor quality according to reviews. The only other option I can think of is buying C/D adaptors and using something like the Eneloop XX's in them but that won't really give me the power I'd be looking for (kids toys are hungry things)

Feedback appreciated.

Ok nevermind I have found what I needed, one eBay seller in USA sells both sizes.

    8 x Tenergy Premium C Size 5000mAh NiMH ($42)

    8 x Tenergy D Size 10000mAh NiMH ($70)

Not exactly "cheap" but better than anything found locally. Tenergy I guess are like LG in TV's, not the best but pretty good. Amazon gives them reasonably good reviews. Would love the Maha Imedions but they are really exxy. I think Maha's have LSD in theirs where as these don't but this is still light years better than any energizers you can buy in our shops and should save a load of money over the years. Hopefully my findings help others in the future :)

Try adapters first. The recent LaCrosse charger/battery deal included them.

  • Use adapters $1 each on eBay. Then just use good enloop batteries and you will be sweet. Its to hard to find a cheap smart charger that will charge C/Ds anyways

  • We've used adaptors in kids toys quite successfully - the batteries last reasonably well.
