Price is $169 @ Harvey Norman and Big W and higher at other places including other EBay sites.

Laser.com.au has it sold out for $169.00.

  • any reviews? anyone got one care to comment

  • Wondering how this would compare to an aliexpress version which is bigger, decent feedback and plenty sold…

It's Laser brand, so the hardware is not going to be amazing.

    • Any feedback on these

    • +2

This "Laser" branded thing is 100% going to be some whitelabel device off Aliexpress (or similar) with a logo printed on it.

  • -1

Can't see how it's worth anything over $100. Looks and performs same as the Aliexpress and Chinese stuff - search 7" android autocarplay radio all selling around $80 mark or less.

In fact the ebay/amazon Chinese stuff comes with bonus reverse cameras.

It does come with a full Australian warranty and a Bing Lee "30 day returns" policy !

      • +1

That's certainly the big thing going for it.
I'm pretty skeptical that these will survive an Australian Summer.

      • +3

Can easily return via Paypal or if bought with Amazon on Prime, have returns done easily.

In my opinion not worth the extra $50 to have Australian Warranty. ACL will always cover you.

Also the delivery exclusions doesn't make it a good deal.

Had a cheapy Aliexpress for my missus Accord Euro - works fine for a whole year, does what it needs to - connect a smartphone to a 7"screen, then outputs audio to the car through multiple channels aux/bt/fm

          Can easily return via Paypal

Not the case anymore, Paypal has become third world financial service run by oversea based third world famine country's trolls.
The latest interaction I had with them, they wanted me to return a wrong item to China at my expenses so I ignored them and I dealt directly with my financial institution and applied for a chargeback.
Dealing with these bug eaters is stressful and a waste of time and they take you in circle on purpose.
From now on every time I buy stuff online I only use my credit or debit card or my bank account details.

          • @billadm: Bug eaters?

            • @Brobert: That would be Thais? Not sure why they are being blamed.

          • +2

@billadm: Can attest to this. Paypal is a joke now.

@KnifeEnthusiastBoi: I guess each to their own experience. Had a bad experience with Aliexpress with an order delivered by FastHorse Express. Had CCTV of driver at 8PM drop the package on my lawn, take a photo, then takes the package.

Reported to Aliexpress, they didn't want to refund despite evidence, so took it up with Paypal who gave same day refund.

That said you can use your CC on Paypal and have extra levels of protection for chargeback/disputes.

Amazon have much easier return/resolution policy - made over 10 returns for shoes/clothing's/electronics and had refund done once scanned back at Auspost.

But we digress - for an item that should be under $100 - Laser had clearly rebadge a cheaper product and taking close to 60% margin on it.

                @kid-vhee:

Had a bad experience with Aliexpress

AliScam also has changed the way they deal with complaints, you only deal with bots and scripts and they deny, deny and deny!
Their bot wanted me to return a fake item to China at my expenses (~$30) whose value was $10!
Have a look at Temo, I bought several items and 2 of them were a dupe, not as described or displayed.
One refund done online online and immediate refund, keep and choice of refund or credit!
Second item done by a chat representative in 5 minutes, refund immediate and choice of store or bank account credit!

        • I don't think the ACL will help you if you buy a foreign product from a foreign site. There's no Aussie company to hold to account.

So you connect this into your existing Car Stereo through the Aux Input and then pretty much ignore the inbuilt headunit from then on aside from adjusting the volume?

    • Yep, they're pretty much for older-ish cars that you're not bothered to spend $500 to replace the head unit with one with AA/Carplay. It's a good alternative but as another commenter said, you can find cheaper ones in AliExpress that do the same thing.

    • Yes that's one option. The idea would be to have your music streamed from your phone through Apple Carplay/Google equivalent. But of course you can still switch from AUX to FM/CD etc.

The other two options would be either to connect this with your head unit through its FM transmitter OR run it stand-alone as it has a built-in speaker (not the best though).

  • Anyone tried tethering an old ipad? And Bluetooth ing to stereo?

    • +3

I mean that's effectively what I currently do, only with my phone in a mount.
Having a Lithium Ion battery permanently on the dashboard in the Sun is just asking to come back to a smoking wreck on a hot Summer's Day.

  • 7 inches is optimal?

    • I prefer my 10.25" but my wife says otherwise.

  • This looks awfully similar to the one from Veloxar. I'm willing to bet $$ they are manufactured by the same company in China. Bought one myself during Prime day for $127

"Bing Lee will not ship products to the following areas: South Australia, NSW Regional, Northern Territory, Queensland Far North / Regional / South East, VIC Regional, Western Australia, Tasmania"

So this is great, as long as you don't live anywhere in Australia…

    • Pretty sure if you live in Western Sydney you'll be ok.

  • How legal are these in Victoria for p platers? Would be useful for gps maps for the kid.

    • As per my understanding, this unit run by a phone, so not legal for P platers.
You may be able talk yourself out of the situation with few but not all.

    • +1

Those laws have changed recently. Can just use your phone for gps as long as it is "securely mounted"
      https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/driver…

      • Thanks mate
You are right. It is allowed if mounted securely,

Learner, P1 and P2 drivers must NOT use a portable device, such as a mobile phone that is not mounted securely in the vehicle, for any function while driving (including while stationary but not parked).

Young drivers are over-represented in serious road crashes.

Mobile phones and other mobile devices (e.g. DVD players, tablet computers, Smartwatches) are major sources of distraction for young drivers, especially as these drivers are still building experience and developing skills.

Remember, all probationary drivers who reach 5 demerit points may incur a licence suspension.
