  • Check out the grays auctions.
You can often pick up a high spec HP gaming laptop for $600-700

I got a i72670qm HP Envy about a month ago for $400. Only problem with it was an analog speaker knob which didn't work.

  • Toshiba suck IMO. Have a look on penta [but buy from them at your own peril!! see my last post re laptops], static ice, also Wireless 1 pricematch [I wouldn't go anywhere else; great service, great advice and always chuck freebies in!].

    • If'n you don't mind a "factory second", the Dell outlet has the Inspiron 17R SE pop up occasionally.

I got one for the Lady Wife with the following spec. It was unmarked, as new, factory refurbished.

Top 'o the pops (Ivy) Core i7
      8Gb ram
1tb 5400 hdd (this would be the thing that limits the machine the most) but has 2 bays (3 if you include the mSATA slot) so an SSD is in it's future if you want ~really~ fast booting etc..
      DVD writer
      2Gb GT650M
      FHD 17.3" screen
      USB3's / HDMI / VGA
      Backlit keyboard webcam blah blah

Cost me AU$820 delivered about 6 weeks ago, though prices can vary with the direction of the breeze apparently..
It's the same basic spec as the unit linked by PiStep above, but with a larger hi-res screen but only 10/100 LAN.. why they excluded Gigabit Ethernet on the 17R is anyones guess.

My personal opinion is that it's a very capable machine but not exactly portable/mobile (big ar*se screen). Adding an SSD would really wake it up - not that it's a slow machine to start with.
