Your Thoughts on an Affordable Outdoor Speaker, Google Groups Compatible

Hi

I've completed resetting our house on Chromecast/ Google TV for synchronised sound throughout. I'm happy with the result.

Sound in the outside area is serviced by a JBL Link, but although it is Google Assistant enabled it cannot be added to a Google Speaker Group.

I'm looking at reasonably priced Google Speaker Group capable replacement options similar in performance to the JBL Link's near field qualities.

I think it's a great idea. Why should the party stop just because you walk outside?

      "I think it's a great idea."

That's what I keep telling HER, but SHE just doesn't get it.

      ;-)

    • Just don't be the local AH who plays deep base all night, just because you can. Consider others. Choose the timing and frequency.
The world has more than enough dix who insist on letting the neighbourhood endure their personal taste in music all all night

I just leave it on all the time. That way others can get used it too. When it starts and stops that's when it gets annoying.

Oh this is the outside speaker discussion. I thought it was the discussion about playing music to cover ambulance noises outside.

        • So you are that person…

      • No worries - I have my Strike Three warning from the local copper. ;-)

  • Get a mesh extender speaker, no more limit to the size of your party!

  • "Get a mesh extender speaker"

Would that mean replacing the existing Tenda M6 mesh networking that's finally doing what I want?

  • Anker sound core boost or boom. Bert value.

      Bert value.

      Does Ernie agree?

      • 😂 *best value

      Not Google Home enabled though?

      • Sorry not those. But I'm sure they offer something with it.

I've used these to turn my old Chromecast v2 devices into Speaker Group compatible Chromecast Audio units.
They're passive powered (still need to power the Chromecast of course) and sound quality is great.
I have one hooked up to my old (non HDMI) Audio receiver powering Outdoor speakers.

Chromecast Audio. Turn any speaker into a smart Chromecast Wi-Fi speaker. Supports 3.5mm aux, RCA inputs and optical digital inputs. It's a discontinued product however they are being sold second hand more expensive than they were at release as they just work.

Cheapest I could find is below for $55.

    • Or use my hack above (analogue output only)

  • Since I started this;

It turns out my "older" JBL Portable is Google Home/ Assistant friendly. In the end there was no issue adding it to the speaker group.

Thanks for all the replies/ comments
