Buying 2023 Hyundai Tucson or Waiting for The 2024 Hybrid?

Hey guys, my partner is looking to buy a 2023 2.0 petrol Tucson Highlander.

She is wanting this before we have our baby in May 2024. I am more so considering the 2024 hybrid Tucson which she may not receive till Jan 2025. She can use my i30 until then.

Just determining thoughts if she was to get the 2023 would it be a regretful decision with resale when most SUVs are going hybrid in the coming years?

  • Your wife is pregnant and wants the 2023 highlander. Just get the 2023 highlander.

Buying 2024 Hyundai Tucson or Waiting for The 2025 Hybrid?

      • assuming the 2025 comes out in 2024 as is the case with most cheaper cars

        • Apologies the 2024 hybrid, which probably won't actually be available until late 2024 or 2025. I think just getting the 2023 Tucson will be better than waiting

My only tip would be to consider the Honda CRV, it's like their designers actually have kids with how they have useable space, access into the back row and visibility.

  • Probably better to let her have the car she wants. I'd prefer the hybrid too, but what your wife wants is surely more important.

Consider the Honda crv. Better stock availability than Toyota. Much better reliability than Hyundai in your years owning it.

She prefers the RAV4 cruiser but doesn't prefer the 18 month wait haha. I have looked at the CRV buy it's 14k more expensive. (46k drive away for Highlander with 3yr servicing free). (Edit: I hadn't even realised the CRV has non hybrid options for sub 50k) I will have to give these a test drive when home from work.

    • Can you afford to order the Rav4 now, buy a used car now, then sell the used car when the Rav4 finally comes in? The car shortage won't end in 18 months so you can probably sell the temporary used car for a big chunk of what you pay for it.

Why can't people make their on decisions instead of coming here asking random people what car to buy?

It's a brave man that approaches his hormone charged partner and says….

I know you want the 2023 highlander but all these random bozo's on ozbargain say we should wait until 2025 and I agree with them.

What is the expected fuel saving for the hybrid? Extra cost might offset the savings you get from less fuel used.

Hang on to the i30 for a bit longer until you can get a suitable EV. I think hybrids are not going to be any more popular then non hybrid in the long term. When EVs become more mainstream and if fuel prices go up significantly a hybrid just becomes a more complex fuel guzzler.

  • My brother in law has just purchased one of these (N-Line Highlander diesel AWD, minus the sunroof) the reason he went diesel over petrol was the gearbox is a traditional torque converter transmission. The petrol variant gets a DSG box.Torque is also so much better which is important to consider if you are loading the the thing up & for pulling power(he previously owned a diesel Santa Fe which was written off in a terrible accident)Hybrid version might be worth the wait if you have your heart set on one, but the economy from the diesel is in the low 5L/100 to the low 6L/100 so pretty good for this type of vehicle. The Honda CRV Hybrid is also worth considering.Good luck whatever variant you purchase.
