Glass is terrible as insulation. Enjoy those power bills.

    • These Fridges Run at just 1.03 kW/24hrs which is roughly 26 cents per day and come with a 10/10 star energy rating

        just 1.03 kW/24hrs

Everything is relative. Using your numbers, this much larger fridge/freezer uses less energy (0.93 kW/24hrs or 23.4 cents per day). Over the course of a year, your fridge costs $9.08 more to run ($94.90 vs $85.82), so yeah, those energy consumption figures are nothing to shout about.

yes I 100% agree with you, I'm not saying its the most efficient fridge on the market. I was just trying to put it into perspective that having a glass door doesn't make it horrible on power consumption, referencing to the first comment.

        • much larger fridge/freezer uses less energy

you could at least compare similar fridge sizes.
Smaller/bar fridges are generally less efficient than larger fridges.

          • @SBOB: Something like this? 133L & 0.57 kW/24hrs

            • @m9: The Schmick one has 0.55 kw/24hr and it’s for outdoor use, but the one you linked is only for indoor use.

              • @huntabargain: All good. Just grabbing the first search result with similar capacity. Schmick is half the size but it is outdoor rated.

                • @m9: That is my point, can’t compare apple with Orange. Outdoor fridges obviously rated as less energy efficient than indoor fridges due the fact its rated at much higher ambient operating temperature. The indoor ones won’t function/cool nor achieve this rating if placed outdoor.

Don't look at the huge TVs everyone loves.

      • That's still pretty horrific isn't it? Just checking my Hisense 496L fridge at home, it is 336 kWh per year which is less than 1 per day

Costs less than $2 a week to run and looks cool, sure to impress on a Saturday arvo.

  • Glass fridge doors are pretty horrible for energy, but solar power is pretty dam cheap.

They look awesome and if you only have drinks in them, I have mine on a timer, turns on at 8am once solar is cranking and turns off at 6pm (early in the week) and later on weekends, keeps cool a good 2hrs after turning off if you only open it once or twice. Stays cool overnight at about 7-10deg if it’s cool, then cranks back on with solar.

    • That's a neat idea to save on some electricity. Do you notice the drinks tasting different since they've been exposed to daily temperature fluctuations?

      • Not at all, the temp doesn’t drop too much, (from. 2 deg to say 7-12) and the drinks all help maintain the temp (it’s always stocked full)

        • Some people said it might give the compressor a flogging, but so does summer in qld where it almost runs flat tit the whole time.
