199 for 13 months was a slightly better deal before but it's over now.

That being said, this is pretty much regular price at this point… makes me wonder if they're cashstrapped, honestly. They've been running up-front membership deals for the last 6 months.

Covid smashed them. All the people who sign up and rarely or never go cancelled, when normally many would just hold on in the hope they'll get off their arse and go.
I used to go to a Derrimut gym, was the filthiest gym I'd ever seen. The toilets were just horrendous, never properly cleaned. The equipment never cleaned.
I go to Jetts now, smaller but impeccably managed and maintained. Worth the extra $.

      • -7

Stop exaggerating mate, I currently go to one of their gyms in Vic and what you’re describing of the toilets is utter BS. Lol

      • -7

I've been to a few derrimuts… They absolutely have the cleanest toilets I ever seen in a gym … They actually over clean them… Every time I needed to go to the toilet they were being cleaned

        • +9

Are the clean toilets in the room with you now?

I remember the good old time when admin fee was $59. It wasn't the best. It wasn't the most preferred. But it was much preferred than this ridiculous $79 establishment fee.
I also wonder what's going on with them. Selling cheap membership continuously. Hopefully they will still be around in near future.

    Never ending "deals"

Should just state it is the regular pricing now

  • "24-hour access to ALL locations Australia-wide, including group fitness classes." But the info for Macgregor says 6am - 10pm All Days?

    • They are not all 24h gyms, the one local to me no longer isnt but it did used to be.

      • +5

no longer isnt but it did used to be

        I see…

        • Double negative, so we're good to go at any hour lol

      • Edit: no longer is*

    • macgregor also has no classes and its a crowded plain looking gym. much nicer gyms around but unfortunately not at this price

    • Do you even see the backdoor or self-check-in door?

  • +9

I'd rather pay more for cleaner facilities and equipment. Cheap just means more crowded with smelly cheapskates all fighting for limited carspots.

    • what gym do you go to now?

    • Poor people don't drive cars

  • Derrimut is a pretty good gym. Got mine for for $250ish nearly a few months ago. It really depends which one you go to.

  • I'm on $15/week at Anytime. Anyone else on a better deal with them?

    • I'm on grandfathered $12.95/week.

      • +2

Odd, i used to have the founder $10.95 a week at anytime and when I last went to renew (nearly 2 years ago now) they told me that their policy was that their prices were updating 'across all gyms' and tried to slug me with 16.95/week. Wouldn't budge on it either.

        • Super dodgy. I had the same issue. Founders rates sounds like a lifetime but i guess not. I left snd never been back. The rate increase gor me was going to be 18.95

    • Im on $50 a month at anytime.. joined maybe 10years ago as a foundation member. Couple of years back staff member said they were likely to increase my rate.. i told them if they did i would cancel my membership and asked the manager to call me… manager never called and they never increased my rate.
Wife was able to get the same rate a few years back (precovid) however was expected to pay 12month upfront

Maybe I'm a different audience to the regular ozb user or maybe the Derrimuts near me (SA) are bigger than those elsewhere, but I love them. For reference I'm in my 30s and used to be recreationally into powerlifting and bodybuilding in my 20s.

Derrimuts is significantly cheaper than any gym I've been to with way more equipment than I could ever dream of using. I was paying over $1k a year at anytime fitness before coming here.

I've been to Anytime Fitness and and Good Life, and they usually only have two squat racks with bent bars, are so packed during peak I sometimes gave up and went home, and are just generally depressing with very few serious gym goers. Also no escaping the ferals at those gyms either.
There's nothing wrong with being a casual, but I'd see the same people doing the same stuff for a year and never improving and it was depressing for somebody like me who's there to try and improve myself.

Just kind of boggles me that on ozbargain people are constantly complaining about a gym that's a quarter of the price of most other gyms, especially over something like a 5 min walk to their car so they can just jump on the treadmill at gym anyway.

Whoops, that ended up being a bit of a rant. Don't mean to have a go at anybody, I'm just so happy to finally have a gym I can comfortably afford and it makes me sad when people are always knocking it because it seems like a bro gym or something.

      • +1

i mean they did have that guy getting beaten (stabbed? i forgot) through the derrimut recently in melb

    • +2

Agree here. As an active ifbb/NPC competitor, some of the Deerimuts I've been to in Melbourne are great. Brooklyn is actually one of the best gyms I've been to in the country. Caroline Springs is great too (has the most squat racks of any gym I've been to in the world). Nonetheless, the one in Macgregor is pretty poor (it was an Anytime previously and feels a lot like an anytime) - when their are two large gyms next door (world gym - even if this location I don't like) / across the road.

      • Brooklyn

        Did you mean Braybrook?

    1gr carbo: 4 cal, 1 gr protein: 4 cal, 1gr fat (oil): 9 cal.

Approximately average daily calory intake for an average male is 2500, and for an average female is 2000 calories.
If one needs to lose some weight, then should deduct 500 calory/daily from these figures.
Physics means maths. If one knows some basic maths then physics no need to Berymont or Crook Jenny to keep in shape.

    • Been on 1700cal for a week and lost 1.5kg. Most is stored glycogen and water weight probably. Sedentary lifestyle no exercise. Not saying exercise is a great tool to lose weight.

      Great deal!

When prices get this cheap it not long before the news comes out that there in administration. These prices are unsustainable !

    • +5

I've heard people speculate it's a motorcycle front. Good business to fudge the membership numbers and launder money…

      Apparently their supplements/meals are "popular"

    • They base it off people buying membership for super cheap and using it only once. It's a great business model. If like when you get a ticket for free, you're less inclined to go to that event than if you paid big bucks for it.

  • Should add "not 24/7" to the description as they don't do 24/7 anymore/temporarily for those who might confuse with the title.

Happy with overalls so far + the price.

  • Planet fitness gyms are cropping up everywhere these days , I use it as a second gym just because the membership is $5 a week ,most of the gyms are new and plenty of equipment the only drawback is very limited free weights you have to use smith machine for squats and bench press

    • None in Melbourne, would have been good.

  • +3

Gives me a bit of a giggle when I see fitness posts on ozb.

  • I WILL use this gym membership fully.

  • Got some of the best equipment at their Oakleigh one and it's hugeeee but it's absolutely packed to the brim

  • +2

Probably can remove WA from the title as the only one in WA is still showingas 'coming soon'
