Please don't use this for dandruff this stuff it is terrible, they took out the active ingredient that actually fights dandruff Zinc Pyrithione. Use a product that actually works like Selsun blue/gold.

    • +2

I remember seeing Selsun in the shower caddy at home when I was kid, so they must be doing something right.

    • Looks like they replaced it with piroctone olamine in the picture.

I have dandruff and can attest to this working, if I stop taking it, the dandruff returns. But to be honest, I've found all anti dandruff shampoos work for me, I just prefer the smell on this one.

      Each to their own :)

      • +1

So they succeeded in making us addicted to their products

        • I can use any of them and they work, if they have one that smells good, I'm okay with that :)
Wouldn't say I'm addicted, I only ever buy this one when it's this price as I'm a TA, for the other times, I just buy the cheapest one I can find, which is about $3/$4 (smaller bottle) LoL

      • -5

Maybe its working because you are taking it (orally) instead of applying it on the head

        • -1

It could be that,Trump told me that was best.
Is that not what the directions say?

OC Naturals at Coles/Worth when on sale in vicinity of $2 also has Zinc Pyrithione.

      Althought $2.95 at present (400ml)

      https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/96387?regi…

Truly effective as well, and doesnt scratch your savings like H&S does (locally made)

    • this stuff it is terrible

Maybe it doesn't work for you because you don't have so many hair, but it works very well for me.

    • +3

The new formula is actually better. Zinc Pyrithione kills the yeast that causes it yes but you can never wipe it out as you need to cover yourself head to toe your bed/pillow/partner/clothes (it just needs the oil to feed on and can live on pretty much anything) and lives on every human. But not every person gets the reaction of heavy skin shedding.

The long version is dandruff is caused by the bodies immune system being flipped for some reason. Meaning it's always in attack mode instead of defense mode. It is not the yeast itself that causes the flaking but the body going "this appears to be abnormal better get rid of it!" The new formula actually works on reversing the flip.
It trains the body "this yeast is harmless all it does is eat part of the oil that lives on the skin not the skin. So chill"

If you think it doesn't work your not using it often enough. A month straight and then 2 times a week is the recommended amount.

If you really want to be fancy use a head and Shoulders shampoo and a conditioner with Zinc Pyrithione as you will get the best of both worlds. :)

Very interesting, I'm going to have to look into that. I have Seborrheic Dermatitis (bad dandriff) and keeping it under control has been a very strict regime for management. Stick to the regime and I don't have a lot of problems, no flaky scalp or discomfort, deviate or get lazy and hello raw scalp and steroidal cream.

For those that are interested or have struggled with bad dandruff. The active ingredients that help with dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis are:
Ketoconazole (2%) (Nizoral/Sebizole Shampoo), Selenium Sulfide (Selsun Gold), Zinc (Cedel Shampoo (2%), most other ones are 1%), Salicylic Acid, Tee tree oil (Thursday Plantation Shampoo).

The Ketoconazole is the nuclear treatment, once a month and leave it in for 10min, do it at the same time as a a wash of bedding/towels/combs (and anything that touches y our face or hair). Then cycle between other shampoo's in between. Don't use a shampoo with multiple ingredients and it will reduce the chances of resistance.

        Hope it helps somebody.

Edit: Vitamin D moisturizer creams are also good, There's actually a prescription one (Dovonex) that uses a form of vitamin D; it's typically prescribed for management for psoriasis (in between topical steroids).

I used to have it bad. Tried everything - coal tar, Selsun gold, head and shoulders.

The wife made up a 50/50 bargain basement white vinegar & water spray bottle and told me to use it with a face washer over my whole body and hair. I scrubbed myself all over with the vinegar soaked washer for two weeks. Smelled like a British fish and chip shop for a couple of weeks, but it went away.

That was a few years ago now. I haven't had the flakey eyebrows, cheeks and scalp since.

Can’t go back to this after t gel

    • +1

T Gel is great too, but it's a small bottle for about $11/$12, so it doesn't last very long for me.

      • You shouldn’t be using T-gel anywhere near daily anyway.

  • +2

Have never used a 2 in 1 that didn't give me dandruff. Started using a separate shampoo and conditioner years ago and have never had dandruff since.

  • -7

Waste of money I just use Abit of spit and comb it through similar to animals. Never had any dandruff. For the smell I just use Abit of cologne.

    • +5

We ain't following your way joe

    • +4

We are talking about shampoo joe, spit is fine with other things

    • Concentrate on not looking like a robo vac at your next speaking event Joe and let your wife worry about the shampoo

    14.99 at Costco for 1.2L

T-Gel is the real deal for medicated shampoo. Very harsh so use with caution.

  • This is not a deal. Usual half price which is very regular. In fact plenty of options cheaper

    • +1

Still a deal. There’s always other options, so with your logic, nothing is ever a deal.

    • There's often other options but can you find this option cheaper?

  • +6

Not for those planning a white Christmas

  • My dermatologist was so proud when I told him I'm not using H&S. If you genuinely suffer from dandruff or a dry scalp get a recommendation from your GP

    • +1

      What did he recommend?

      • +1

There's a reason I didn't mention what I was recommended and advised people to see a GP.

Dandruff has many causes and each one will warrant different treatment, treatment might include shampoo, might not. Do you need to preserve natural body oils, do you need to remove certain substances (e.g. bacteria) on the scalp, do you need a stronger cleaning agent, do you need less oil, is it related to allergies, is it related to sun exposure, is it the material of your hat or gel, which one of the huge list of medical conditions could cause it etc etc.

What I'm using may not work for others and could make things worse, I don't feel comfortable giving medical advice beyond, H&S is shit and see a GP or health professional for an alternative.

  • Any opinions on this product? It is so damn cheap and has Zinc Pyrithione.
    Oc Naturals Anti Dandruff 2-in-1 400ml $2.95 @ Woolworths

    • +1

I’ve used it daily for years and for me it controls dandruff just fine.

But as a regular user, I stock up when it’s 50% off which was a few months ago.

      It’s a true Ozbargain compared to H&$

      • +1

Sorry, I missed your comment above where you already recommended this alternative. I also purchased a few bottles at 50% off a few weeks ago. The product seems just as effective as H&S and T/Gel, both of which are now a ridiculous ~ $20 RRP. I'm surprised, given the value, it is not already an OzBargain favourite.
