Thief Attack- Need Fencing Solution

Guys just a day before we were going overseas we found someone tried breaking into our property. We bought a house recently and one side towards the street is this old cheap tree branch like fencing. The one only privacy we get are of huge honey suckle plants that covered the fence.

We had to leave overseas but informed our neighbours. Changed the outdoor camera angle that’s all.

We would like to replace the existing fencing and get some solution. How much are we talking about installing per meter timber or colour bond fencing and ensuring our plants are protected while installing?

It's going to depend where you live… Grabbing three quotes from your local fencers will give you the best idea.

    I’m in Sydney South West.
Any clue difference of price between timber and ColourBond?

    • +3

If you can do the work yourself (there are plenty of step-by-step guides and videos on the internet) you can get the Colorbond components from Bunnings for ~$142 per panel. Works out ~$60/m.

Guy can't even google and you expect him to build something? Thanks for the chuckle

just go colourbond….the shit lasts forever and looks good as long as you dont bash the crap out of it and dent the panels

So much drama for what is essentially a fencing quote request. FFS.

      op knows…."THIEF ATTACK!!!!"

When you want a fencing quote, you always come to Australia's premier insurance advice site.

        That makes fence. Cheers

Can't make a fence without a fence post.

$4672 + GST for colourbond. I need 50% deposit upfront

    • +1

      damn ur quote beats mines
i charge $4673 + GST (although cash in a brown paper bag means GST freeeee)

  • +4

Since OP in South West and in a hurry, it be around $5300 + GST, I need to buy some materials first, so I need at least $4000 up front. Or we can do less for cash.

    Boiling water will be cheaper.

Yet another post from someone who has the means and money to buy a house in Sydney but doesn't have the ability to google. I laughed at your reply asking for the difference between timber and colorbond.

    Truly amazing.

    • Truly predictable.IMO

  • Last time I did colourbond it was about $100 per meter not including extras like retaining wall, sleepers or core holes.

  • Cams with flood lights that turn on when detect a person would probably help. Sure they might smash the camera but I bet they'll be scared the house is full of cameras or that police were called.

Fencing contractors watch Ozbargain religiously for threads like this so they can add a premium to the quotes. They are all in cahoots, They call it the lazy tax. It's even bigger %, 6 months either side of Xmas.

Afford new house, cameras and an OS trip?, can pay the lazy tax.

    • It's why people shouldn't be giving free info so easily. It's a little bit like feeding the Pigeons.

What if the Thief sues you?

    Do you have insurance?

      Oh why are you late?

He's been doing Father Christmas Grinch gigs ?

  • Unless you are going to put up barbed wires / electric fencing, its not going to stop thieves from breaking in!

Wow the level of trolling for someone inexperienced with fencing.
All I wanted was a solution for privacy as the thief has cut the branch like fencing now the parts of backyard is exposed. We won’t stay here over 10 years so wanted to compare the pricing to purchase and get someone to install timber fencing vs colour bond.
I’m overseas and thought my OzB team and give me some solutions.

If there are strong privacy screens to make things economical that would be nice something easy to install by myself.

Tbh why I came here was I got so much help here for the smallest possible solution that I consult here for everything I feel I need help with.

    • Pointing out that you could and should have done what most adults do, (search/ring/visit business) is hardly trolling.
Just because thousands of other lazy leaners expect forum validation, or online communities to do their leg work, or because they want an audience , doesn't equal trolling. Conversely not doing a simple search for a common issue, and posting on a forum before doing so, is closer to trolling. That's according to most ppl.

Your last sentence kinda indicates you have given up on the physical world.

      There's an old saying.
      Ask a silly question……..
It was * literally* made for the age of the internet

      • I would have done all the above if I was not going back overseas in 6 hours.
I’m still overseas and worried. I can’t make phone calls but will do so.

        • It's called prioritising.

        • Put yourself as a trade person, would you be able to give the client a quote based on what you have told us?

Just drag some of the vines across the space.

A colourbond fence isn’t really a hassle for someone who wants to get into your property. It’s still easy to jump if you’re reasonably agile.

    • Thanks mate.

      • +1

id also put up a 'KEEP OUT' sign as well…these really work well in conjuction with the vines and will be a bulletproof solution with minimal outlay!!

        • One side of my house faces a busy street but gets awfully quiet. If I put up the sign I’m sure some idiots walking by will pull it off.
There was a council sign “No walking” or something like that it was damaged and taken out.

It’s a great idea to get more vines to cover the fence that was cut. Need to search if I can get similar vines. This was my honey suckle, jasmine plants will be saved.

  • Can someone please help with my previous post?

  • I posted another picture. It’s closeup and you can see anyone can see our living room from outside
