Looking for a 'Galaxy' Style Projector Light

Ahoy,

Once upon a time I bought a super cheap USB based laser pointer with a prism for like a dollar, which looks pretty great when pointed at the ceiling.

Today I took a look around for something a bit fancier and found these: https://www.galacticnight.com.au/ & https://pleshy.com/en-au/products/spacebuddy-3

But they seem a little overpriced perhaps. Kmart has a cheap knockoff: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/star-light-projector-431861…? … But I'm unsure if it's a good option.

Has anyone dabbled in this sort of thing? Appreciate any recommendations. Cheers.

  • Prob have to look at Ali or eBay (which will prob end up being a dropshipper anyway)

    kmart unsure if good

Just try it and if crap take it back. The return process is quite painless. The clerks are usually teenagers who could care less about trying to dispute a refund.

    • I was kinda wary about eBaying/Aliexpressing one, as the pics are always photoshopped and doing a return is often a pain in the ass (and not worth the return shipping costs).

Yeah, I guess you're right. I wouldn't get the $10 delivery fee back (they're not in stock in store, and it's a clearance item), but whatever I guess.

Sorry, I have been outside though.

Uhuh. It may surprise you that the reason why I'd like one of these things is to make the inside of my house look good for when I bring back people I meet outside of the house. I don't have the laser pointer thing because I gifted it to my GF. Or do you just sleep alone in an empty room with a mattress on the floor?

You’re very welcome let me know if you need anything else

  • I bought 1 from ebay for my son. pretty good..u can change to any of the 6 strips they provided

    • Got a link perchance? Or the best search term?

I was kinda wary about eBaying for one, as the pics are always photoshopped and doing a return is often a pain in the ass (and not worth the return shipping costs).

      • can't find the ebay link but i got this https://www.amazon.com.au/Projector-One-Fire-Decorative-360%… exact same item from ebay for $13-18

        • Ah, right. While that does look very cool for a kid - Not quite what I'm going for ;)

        • Love the obviously fake photos…

          • How low is that ceiling / how high is the bed/bedside table?
          • Portions of the projection that have no posssible way for them to reach that location (i.e. on top of the girls arm)
          • Random sparkles/"comets"
          • Fake brightness/clarity - the further from the projector it is, the darker the image will be; and there'll be a sweet spot for clarity: closer and further from the projector will be increasingly blurry
          • @Chandler: well I've received the item and tested it out. it's pretty good.
it's common knowledge that a lot of ebay items are photoshopped

OK we've had a few, then I saw one advertised recently that looked pretty cool but was around $140 which was too much IMO. So we shopped around and got, from what I can tell the exact same one from Aliexpress for 40 bux (minus 4.5% cashback).

The video at the link is pretty accurate and you can adjust all kinds of stuff via the phone app like brightness, rotation speed, timer and colour changes. You can also pick what colour device to get, black or white. We just plug ours into a USB power pack. Delivery was pretty quick too, only about a week.

    • This does look very awesome! It's interesting that the Kmart one looks like you're supposed to have it in the centre of the room, whereas that one I suppose you pop in a corner?

Does it work over WiFI or BT? I must admit I've had bad experiences with chinese apps and getting them to work over WiFI (or BT, tbh). The pic I looked at makes it seem like it has a 6v DC jack, rather than a USB lead?

Pretty sure it does both. You can stick it wherever you like depending on where you want the main action to occur. It does have ridges in the base so you can place it on different angles. I had no problems connecting it to the phone. It does have a round jack but comes with a converter lead for USB power.
