Where to Source Cheap Christmas Decoration after Christmas?

After Christmas, where to find significant discounts on Christmas lights and decorations as retailers try to clear out their remaining inventory? I heard this is a common practice to make room for new merchandise and is an excellent time to purchase Christmas items for the next year, but I never saw one myself, maybe I wasn't paying attention.

I'm just trying to get the bats out of a large barn. Christmas music is a bonus too, I think. The flashier the better.

Everywhere that sells decorations and still has stock to clear? Not rocket science. Kmart, Big W, Target, Spotlight, Bunnings, even Coles…

    • I just didn't do shopping often at that time. Thanks.

      slow down br0 slow down
gotta get a pen and paper to write this down!

      • Copy paste into word then print. Don’t forget to laminate so you can take it with you and cross stores off as you go, then clean it and reuse for next year.

    • Majority of those shops around here have already sold out of most of their Christmas stock at discounted rates. Last week lights were 30-40% off.

  • Same place you buy Easter Eggs in June

    In the hard rubbish.

Big W had 30-50% off theirs last week and most of it went. Think others have started clearing it as well, so may not be much left after Xmas.

  • After Christmas may be too low late! They are clearing stock already.

  • The reason you never saw any Christmas items at significant discounts is that there is a big demand for Christmas lights and decorations as everyone is trying to get bats out of their large barns.

Many people make the mistake of sourcing cheap Halloween decorations.

  • I don’t understand what getting the bats out of a large barn means.

ah, so the idea is to scare away a flying mammal that is sensitive to changes in light and sound so that they stop making homes in a barn - a large wooden structure that is hard to plug all holes and gaps

Ah, you mean it literally. I thought it was some figure of speech with which I was unfamiliar! E.g. there is a saying implying someone is a bit odd “he’s got bats in his belfry”.

I've noticed some stores now start clearing seasonal / promotional stock in the last week before the event.
For example Coles stores started clearing AFL products after the prelim final weekend, and the week before Halloween, all related products were being cleared.

  • My yearly hobby

Always check but generally dont bother with christmas themed and lighting shops because they dont do clearances

You want the shops that stock it seasonally and dont have storage for next year

Kmart target bigw spotlight davidjones myer bunnings woolworths coles

The timing changes from year to year and by store
It can start the week before christmas i.e. now
It can start on christmas eve
    Or on boxing day

Generally discounts will increase over time but things will also sell out

Generally luxury brands will not be discounted theyll just be returned to the manufacturer

Some places will sell you stuff online, but then allow it to be sold in store during the sales before they pick it for you and cancel

Some places will hide items online at some point to avoid online sales. This is where making an online wishlist before hand is necessary as a way to bypass

To optimise i scope out at the beginning of november and december, and i purchase a few things i really want at full price
Then i purchase multiple times as prices drop over the following weeks

  • Where do you live that you have a wooden barn? Did you build it?

  • Specials and clearance has already stared.
