I purchased this a year ago and have been making home made ice cream since. Takes about 40 minutes thanks to the inbuilt compressor.

I use a thermomix too and it takes 15 seconds to make delicious ice cream out of frozen fruit. I throw in frozen banana pieces or frozen mango pieces with a couple of tablespoons of coconut cream and blend. Thats it. Sometimes I might add a dash of vanilla essence to the banana. Super healthy ingredients, zero added sugar. I like it soft serve consistency but If you want it very firm put your served bowl in the freezer for 15 minutes.

I love making ice cream with this. I bought it last year. I use non-homogenised milk, heavy cream and condensed milk. It is delicious and nourishing.

    • +1

      It is delicious and nourishing.

      and helps support struggling cardiologists…

      • +9

I say people who don't feel sorry for struggling cardiologists don't have a heart.

      • -2

I appreciate the humor but dairy isnt as bad as its made out to be. Coffee is fair worse for your heart.

        • +1

Since when is coffee bad for your heart? The longest lived people in the world drink it.

        • +1

How is coffee bad for your heart… That's not factual at all.

  • +1

How does this one compare to the more expensive ones like Cuisinart, etc? Are those really worth the extra over this?

    • +1

The Cuisinart makes 1.5l and this one only makes 1l. The Cuisinart will probably also have better build quality and have a stronger motor. Otherwise both will do basically the same thing.

      • Cheers, yeah finding it hard to justify $400+ on the others if the difference is not drastic

  • how do you make the ice cream stretchy like in the shops?

  • +1

If I have a thermomix is this still worth getting?

    • I got a thermo as well, my sister says the icecream is not fluffy. Have you tried the Thermomix mix icecream?

  • Pair this with messina’s recipe book, they come with commercial and at home versions of their recipes. Got some unusual ingredients but very worth it. This machine is pretty nice but I do find the motor struggles a little bit

    • messina’s recipe book? How do i get this?

      • +1 keen on this book/bible

      • +1

they sell them at some of the stores, usually near the cakes and all that.
        https://gelatomessina.com/products/the-recipes-book

$40 but if you're good at uh.. googling… some say theres a free version that has a small handful of the recipes. Worth checking out to see if you can be bothered with ingredients like skim milk powder, dextrose, glucose syrup, xantham, etc. They make a crazy difference but are more annoying to source

        • All of those things are pretty readily available these days. With the exception of dextrose (which you can get on amazon), the others are all available at coles/ww

  • Home made icecream is easy and tasty. My top 2 flavours are matcha green tea and red bean icecream. Yes, it is dearer but much, much better than store bought icecream

    Haven't experiment with othet flavours.

Wish this one was bigger than 1L.

    • Can I know how much matcha powder you use and when to put it in?

  • Could some one give me an idea of the foot print needed on the counter for it. Please and thanks in advance

Anyone know if this good for sorbet? I've been buying mine from Asian gelaterias and it's about $20 to $25 a L

Though actually if I get this I could make my own ice cream using lactose free cream, as the only lactose free ice cream in the supermarket is $7.50 a L and only comes in vanilla flavour.

    I’ve spent 3 years going from a size 40 back to a 36
Is this a good buy considering i love ice cream but don’t eat it much anymore 😳 or would i be dancing with the devil 😂

    • +1

There are plenty of good sugar replacements now. Thats my plan of attack.

      • +1

        Addendum to previous comment:

Ok so I have the machine and have attempted a sugar free ice cream. Turns out that sugar is the main thing that stops ice cream from freezing into a solid block. Theres tonnes of the stuff in normal ice cream and the small molecules stop large ice crystals from forming.

I have heard that alcohol does help in this regard but defeats the purpose of the sugar free part since it eventually is turned to sugar by the body anyway.

I will try some MCT oil if I can find some that doesn't change the flavour too much. That might be the ticket.

        Anyone else had any luck?

    • Great work. Well done!

  • +1

I went to Aldi this morning but no ice cream makers. Apparently they have been "delayed"?

    • +1

Yeh same here no stock in WA stores delayed for at least a week apparently

      • Bugger :(
Is there a way to check stock without going into a store?

    • None in QLD either. Aldi worker: "Wasn't that last week?" 🤦‍♂️

      • I think they are referring to the soft serve machine. I had the same comment.

    • Looks like they are in stock in Melbourne now. Still none in Perth :(

    • No stock anywhere yet

      • Still nothing - anyone had any luck?

        • If you are happy not going compressor style.

This is the one I have and it does a great job. You just need to store the tub in the freezer

          • @maverickjohn: With a compressor it's much quicker and easier.

            • @Duece1995: It is, I'm just showing an alternative. For those who are wanting one. If you can wait definitely try and get the aldi one. But just in case the alternative does exist.

          • @maverickjohn: "If you are happy not going compressor style."

            ???

TBH I don't think there would be too many ozbargainers not happy going compressor style to be found in a post entitled 'Ice Cream Maker with Compressor'.

            • @Stokerup: The comment was regarding if they can't get their hands on the aldi one due to supply issues from aldi. Obviously if they can get their hands on it, then my comment is irrelevant. However if they can't, I'm posting a cheap alternative which isn't compressor based..
The next cheapest compressor icecream make is from nisbets from what I can see at $380.

  • Want the convince of compressor

  • +3

Fyi, this is in stock in Vic stores now, well at least west Footscray

    • Thanks! Off to ALDI I go!

      • Yep, a stack of them in Wangaratta.

  • Supposed to be on sale on the 6th according to their site.

    https://www.aldi.com.au/special-buys/special-buys-product-de…

  • +1

    Still nothing for WA

  • Drove to a few stores in Vic they didn’t have it and staff are really clueless and make up a story that they were sold out

    • the staff are incompetent, i had the same experience but in a diff state. Tho, it might actually be sold out in VIC as the Aldi product delays page only has VIC as the only state that has it, other states dont

    • Check the stock here

      https://www.stockcheck.aldi.com.au/product/713484/?lat=-37.7…

I had to go to campbellfield and they had tons, nothing near my house.

      • Today it says no stock anywhere

        • Yep, that was quick. Didn't even have any for the whole east area and the stores that were all green (west and north) all showing no stock now.

        • Stock everywhere now near me. All Doncaster and surrounding suburbs showing full green availability.

          • +1

@HoochieMamma: Thank you, got one. Now trying it….let’s see if it was worth it!

            • +1

@Loulou88: We made the chocolate one from the manual as a test, wife said it was the best chocolate ice cream she's had. Will be using this a lot in the future.

              • @HoochieMamma: Thanks I will try that next. I tried the ozbargain recipe mentioned above mixed with a KP mango and was pretty good besides being hard. We had to let it sit out for 10 minutes before eating, not sure if that’s the norm with home made icecream.

  • The paddle didn’t spin so I just ended up with ice. Is it faulty or did I miss something ?

    • +1

Did you align the metal contacts with the contacts on the motor unit? Did you select the correct mode, which should be cooling and mixing simultaneously?

      • Just noticed there was cream overspill on that section so the metal didn’t make contact!

    • Did you follow the instructions?

  • +1

Just picked one up in WA today. Store had about 7 pieces in total

    • Looks like all of WA has stock

  • +1

what is happening with Sydney stock? still nothing anywhere unless I have missed something

    • It looks like most of the stock is Victoria according to the checker. Hopefully it spills this way soon. I'm sick of using my Breville freezer bowl that won't completely freeze the ice cream before it defrosts.

    • Nothing in Canberra either

    • It never made it to Sydney.

      • +1

it has turned up today, picked one up in Gladesville

Got one of these a week ago. Have used it every night since. Definitely a step up from the Krups freezer bowl type machine we've had for years for a few reasons.

    (1) When the machine stops and starts beeping, the ice cream already has a harder consistency than that produced by the Krups.
    (2) If you leave the machine on cooling mode for 10 minutes afterwards the ice cream is firmer still. As firm as you could ever wish for.
    (3) The ability to do multiple batches.

Some might baulk at the lower capacity (1L) but in reality it's not an issue for us. Although our old Krups has a larger capacity (1.5L) we still needed to make two batches because it didn't quite fit our favourite base recipe all in one hit. So we did one full batch followed by a small batch (which in reality was all the freezer bowl could probably handle having already warmed a bit after the first batch). With the new machine we now do two full batches with the same recipe.

If anyone's interested the recipe is the original Ben & Jerry's vanilla complete with uncooked eggs 😲 😲 😲 😲 because I can't be bothered cooking a custard and then cooling it down. No one in the family has got salmonellae from using it in the 10 years we've been doing so.

    2 large eggs
    3/4 cup sugar
    2 cups whipping cream
    1 cup milk
    2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Whisk the eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, 1 to 2 minutes.
Whisk in the sugar, a little at a time. Continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 minute more.
Add the cream, milk, and vanilla, and whisk to blend.
Transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Used it as a base for two different flavours tonight - Chokito and then Choc Chip.

  • Anyone notice you can't search for it on the stock checker anymore? Seems like they only made this product available in Vic and WA.

    • +1

      Bought one in SA today.

    • +1

stock checker shows stuff only 4 weeks after it turns up at any store, even outside of the state you're searching for. unfortunately it's now so long that the system has stopped showing it but it's definitely there.

however it's available in NSW now, I just picked one up from the Gladesville store today.

      • +1

@fruitloafer thanks for sharing, just got one from Gladesville this morning, 2 left

  • Confirming stock in SA, about 10 units at Clovelly Park today. Went to the Marion store yesterday and they didn't have any.

  • +1

One of my local Aldi (Vic) actually selling this for 30% off (~$104) which kinda baffles me because stock was delayed and it wasn't out that long.

    • Would Aldi price match a different store?

    • Could you share which Aldi did you go?

      • I’m afraid it’s all sold out now :/

  • +1

Plenty of stock at aldi Balgowlah NSW, I saw it listed in ACT available but not in NSW product delay section. However I assume it.must be in stock everywhere across NSW.

  • People have been saying they are available but have been to 2 shops and can't find 1. Let me know if anyone see's 1 on Central Coast NSW

  • +1

Bought 1 today at Aldi Chatswood Westfield (NSW). 4 left

  • Anyone know which Aldi in Vic still have it? Nothing shows on stock check

  • I have been told that these have now been recalled due to an electrical fault. Does anyone have any further details?

    • Are you referring to the Ambiano Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker?

      • Not sure, I am still trying to track 1 down. Was advised today they have been recalled

    • I sure hope not. I have spent quite a lot of time looking for the one I bought.

  • The one recalled is for the ambiano ice cream machine. https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recalls/aldi-stores-a-limit…

Totally different item to the The Stirling
