Got it from Amazon and feel it doesn't sound great. Not sure if my expectations were high. Trying to sell now in marketplace.

Ya tried it in-store. - no base - clanky - volume low. Not worth $50. Looking to spend a bit more and grab a deal on boxing day on a JBL or et.al., (fingers crossed)

  • I own a few small Bluetooth speakers:
    - JBL Go3
    - JBL Clip 4
    - Sony XB13
    - Sony XB100

The JBL out perform the Sony in this form factor. Sony does look nicer and the XB100 does have a few extra features but if you want pure sound performance I'd pick the JBLs.

Bought my Go3 for like $39 from OW after price beating Amazon and I love it.

  • I got one of these about a week ago from Amazon for $56. Initially disappointment with tinny sound and lack of bass also.

However in a previous life I partially subscribed to the speaker "break in" snake oil and I can't get totally over it. I feel it's particularly important for these waterproof speakers with passive radiators to stretch themselves out before sounding their best. So I ran the speaker pretty loud with some electronic music and ambient noise from SomaFM for ~20-30hrs.

Now I'm extremely happy with the speaker. I honestly hate to admit the sound seems totally different. I know you'll think I drank the cool-aid but I feel it's almost too much bass in some circumstances (not the really low stuff obviously).

Unfortunately during my unscientific snake-oil trip I also discovered the companion Android app and enabled LDAC codec which could have made the difference also (although I don't know how much that could help with my low bit rate internet radio stations).

EDIT: This thread made me start thinking so I did some simple comparisons with youtube clips connected to my phone (LDAC) vs PC (SBC). It sounds way better with the phone. Bass "comes in" lower (minus many dB) at ~60Hz vs ~80Hz and is much fuller. Plus annoying tinny sound and general vagueness is much reduced. I still assume breaking in speakers helped tho…
