Bad Habit of Buying Clothes Now I Want to Get Rid of Them

Dear beloved OzBers, I'm so grateful for this community for sharing the passion of finding the best deal available out there.

However, I've been having a bad habit of buying clothes for my partner and myself for years, especially during the lockdown. The clothes are mostly brand new with tags and some are having the same colour/style with different sizes (just bought them and never return)

I'm thinking to sell them but I don't have the time to do it. I don't want to have a garage sale because I just don't want lots of people wandering around my place. Does anyone know if there is a store or someone who can sell our stuff on behalf of for a fair share or commission? Or even better if that person is an OzBargainer :p

I live in South East side of Melbourne and looking for advice for my situation.

Thank you in advance!

Note:
- There are hundreds of them, mostly from Asos and Uniqlo
- Have donated some, but in need of cash

You want someone else to put in all the work and get a commission only?

    • A fair commission should do it, right?

      • +3

        70% for the reseller
        30% for you

I hear this is the going rate, because let's face it, the reseller is taking all the risks and doing all the work. Not to mention storing everything until it sells.

Just being honest with you. Best of luck.

        • yeah I thought so. thanks!

Donate it to a charity like good sammys or salvos etc and help people in need.

Some people are doing it tough right now and your donation will help them via these charities.

    • Have donated some, but donating all may not be the best solution for my situation atm.

If they are designer / good brands, then there are 2nd hand cloths stores that will buy them. I am sure there will be some in Melbourne, just google for them.

If not you are going to have to put in the hard work, or just donate and feel good about helping others.

    • yeah, Googling it atm.
      Thanks for that

ASOS and Uniqlo are ubiquitous, I don't you will fetch a good price, its probably worth it because you've got become a supplementary warehouse for them.

The first thing you need to focus on getting rid of is your uncontrollable impulse to buy.

I know the feeling, want, want, want and the satisfaction, then a combination of a Missus that hates clutter and moving house it hit me that buying things that I probably won't use is stupid.

    • yeah that bad habit is hitting me now :(
I don't expect a good price, getting a little bit back will be helpful.

    just whack it on marketplace

    • yeah, considered. thanks!

  • +9

Put it on market place as a bulk lot, not to be broken up.

Someone will buy it with plans to re-sell. Be prepared to take a heavy loss.

    • yeah, considering this. thanks!

There are stores that sell on consignment, but usually they focus on more upmarket brands. However search around your local area for that eg https://secondo.com.au/pages/consignment . However they probably wont take Uniqlo, might take Asos but probably not

If you have something interesting and not run of the mill, then you can use Depop, better than FB marketplace but you have to sell individually and post (usually $10).

    • I will take a look on those, thanks!

  • +2

Sell it on ebay in lots, similar with similar and same sizing, you might get 50% back if you are lucky.

    • will consider this, thanks!

I'd probably just make a bulk lot listing on ebay.

Title it: "Wholesale clothing reseller lot bulk uniqlo asos bnwt this many pieces"

Count up how many items you have, x it by $5 and set that as your price.
Eg 20 pieces = $100 plus calculated ship.

Will be gone in a week.

I base the price on the max I would spend as a reseller for uniqlo.

That's the quick and easy way out.

If you want the maximum $$$ out of it, you will have to individually list them all yourself.

You can de well if youre willing to put in the work
Unfortunately poshmark just left but depop, ebay and others are around. I just bought something on airrobe.

Your best option to be lazy (for items with tags and numbers) is fishpond smart sell but looks like youll have to wait https://www.fishpond.com.au/page/smartsell

  • same colour/style with different sizes (just bought them

    for free shipping?

    There are hundreds of them

I hope Australia's $1tn debt wasn't used to fund crap like this!

    • yeah, mostly free shipping but some in-store pickup

I hear people pay good money for used unwashed underwear.

    • I have no used unwashed underwear :p

        Well hurry up and PYFO

Gift it to friends and family? Maybe charge them $2 per item or whatever to make sure they really want it and will use it.

Depop is good… Can do 3 day auctions on ebay as well. Just put a low price on stuff you want to get rid off. Can also click sold or completed on ebay search options to find what others sold for. Another option is to price everything as one bundle and send in a box with $30 postage. Kind of getting close to doing that myself, but want better prices for the good stuff…

this actually a good idea, will add this to my to do list. Thanks!

I don't advise auctioning on ebay. The platform is no longer about auctions and things generally sell for whatever the starting bid is. New sellers tend to take ebay's advice of starting it at 99 cents. And that's what it will sell for.

        • +1

lol, just set your price and anything @ 99c should get bids.

  • +1

    What size are you OP

    • I am usually XS-S for Uniqlo.
However, I bought many different sizes, so 1 item can have multiple sizes

  • +1

How much did you spend all up?

Were they steeply discounted for you to have been tempted to buy the items?

    • +1

They were mostly around 25% off of RRP
Didn't really calculate it, maybe $15k++

  • +2

If you do donate to a charity try one of the smaller ones they dont get enough support and more of the dollars raised generally gets to the ones that need the help.

      condisdered this, thanks!

I do the same. I had about 60 pairs of jeans at one stage although I usually rotate between 5 of my favourite pairs

I currently have about 25 pairs left. I'll donate the rest too, to the brotherhood/salvos.

Fortunately money isn't a problem so I'm happy to donate.

hold a stall at a local market? (essentially a garage sale just not at your home)

    • +1

Thinking of doing this, thank you!

I knew a woman who specialised in selling stuff for people just like this, on eBay, FB, Gumtree, etc, but I can't remember who it was.

    There's definitely people out there.

Type "find someone to sell stuff for me" into Google…

  • You need discipline

what did you end up doing, out of curiosity?

    • still haven't decided, but seems like they will go to op store
