Any member of Choice.com.au willing to help out?

I was wondering if anybody was a member of choice and could PDF up one of their reports and email it to me please?

I don't t really feel like joining for a whole quarter for one article but I feel like it would be quite beneficial :(

You can buy it singly for $10. Surely that's not too much to ask from an organisation that has to pay its own way, rejects any sponsorships, etc.

    • Where's this option? I can't see one anywhere to purchase the article, can only see an option to purchase a subscription.

  • You are right!!

Apologies as I did not see that as an option until you mentioned it and went back hunting for it!

That option isn't not listed in their regular pricing page:

But rather embedded in the article itself, so i must have missed it.

    Thanks for the heads up!

OP: Libraries are your friend! Many libraries have subscriptions to Choice, and you can read them there, and maybe borrow them. That's a good free way to get the info that's in Choice.

But I do wish they'd make their single article prices cheaper - if they made it say $3, I have to suspect they'd sell more than 3 times as many. E.g. I have not bought a single article, ever, because the price is a bit much, especially when there are other more-up-to-date free multi-product reviews online. I.e. I'm not convinced that they are using profit maximising pricing. And I wish they would, because Choice is an exceedingly beneficial organisation, and I want them to survive and keep doing what they do.

Also, if you ever had a subscription (I have/had an expired digital + print one), you should keep access to all the online articles that came out during your subscription and before (i.e. you should keep what had during your subscription, just not get the updates). Instead what happens is that you lose all access when your subscription runs out, so you have to run around saving all the old articles that you think you'll need. I ended up writing a script to do this, so I can have access to some old articles, but not the new ones that have come out since. But no user should have to do this, it makes no sense. Keep access open, just not for articles that came out after the subscription expired.

That's a good point, maybe I'll send them a suggestion on their site.

      • I think you'll find it is no accident. The option exists to convince you that buying a subscription is good value.

        • I think that idea is misguided. People are more likely to come back if they encounter value. If they want to encourage subscriptions, there are other things they could experiment with, like a trial multi-pack. Speaking for myself, I would not be convinced to purchase a subscription for X widgets just because a single widget is priced much higher than a subscription if I know nothing about the widget.

        • Sure, but you are also on ozbargain, so probably not the sort of customer that drives profit.

        • I'm not convinced that my way of thinking is particular. I think other people are also discouraged by this barrier.

        • The people who consult Choice are also not as easily led as the average consumer.

  • 30 a quarter is not much to ask really. You get the magazine and all online stuff.
