Cashrewards Confirmation Email - Yay! You Just Got Cashback

Hi, I received an email from CR a couple of days ago, the original purchase was in Oct.

The subject had "Yay!! You just got cashback"
Down in the body of the email it had "Hi David, congratulations on getting cashback on your $4231 purchase at Microsoft Store"

I was pleased to get this as it is $296 back in my pocket, which is a good chunk of money.
I went into my CR account only to find it still pending, I contacted support, and they said sorry it's just a tracking email.
I said NO, I received the tracking email back in Oct, why would you send me a confirmation of cashback if it was still pending.

Didn't get anywhere arguing the point, just wondered if anyone else has had a similar situation.
Seems odd for CR to send this email for transactions still pending.

  • It will say when the cashback will be available on your account cashback details

    • Thanks, I understand that.
Receiving this type of email indicated to me that it had been approved.
I have had ones approved before the date shown before, just makes no sense that they send me this email leading me to think it is ready to withdraw.

  • CR, not CW (Chemist Warehouse)

    • Thanks, too much online shopping. Corrected

  • Was this your first purchase via Cashrewards?

    • No, been with them for years.

      • Then surely you've received these type of e-mails before?

  • +1

    Hi David

  • Most likely a phishing scam.

I also got a similar email from "ShopBack" recently. Looked real authentic and email addresses were the same as previous emails.

However, I had no corresponding transactions on my ShopBack account or deposits to my bank account. So I assume that the links in the email would have been dodgy.

    • Hi, can't be a scam as it had "Hi David, congratulations on getting cashback on your $4231 purchase at Microsoft Store" which I did spend.

      • My emails had no specific details including addressee, just informing that my transaction had been successful.

Then I'd be hitting up ShopBack for your cash, if the applicable time has passed and it hasn't already landed in your SB account.

  • You're just going to have to wait David.

  • had my biggest cashback (~$150) still pending for 6 months. feels like anything worth getting cashback never gets paid out, perpetual waiting.
