PayPal not wanting to convert to USD

Always like to pay in USD online places like Aliexpress, but since this last week every time it goes to payment and click change currency it reverts back to AUD.
I have to click out and click back in 3-5 times before it changes to USD.
Is anyone else getting the same problem?

I had the same problem last week. I tried another browser thinking that might be the issue (because the setting is clearly selected, just not remembered on the next screen).
After many attempts, I gave up and paid in AUD.

I clicked out of PayPal and waited 5 minutes, clicked back in without refreshing Ali page. Selected the card I wanted to use first, then changed it to USD. Only way I've been able to get it working

    • Just did it again, bought $340.07 USD from a Sydney based seller, PP wanted $523 AUD. 5 minutes is the golden wait time without touching anything, it lets you change to USD after that time.
28 Degrees charged me $502 AUD after that.

Bold move from PayPal if they knock this on the head, I'll go back to using AliPay and just use the card direct instead, $20 is 20 bucks, They're capitalizing on people thinking it's an error.

Thanks for the tip. There's something sneaky going on with this.

This could be to do with some changes that PayPal have made recently for business accounts, basically they are limiting the currencies that businesses can receive money in.

  • Blame Mr Musk! He was involved with its predecessor after his migration from South Africa via Canada.
Ali has a receive first and then pay later setup. This requires to you to play Chinese Musical Chairs or something like it. Since I always have a few grands worth of stuff in their basket I just got a frequent user discount of 35% on an item of my choice.
    Rant finished in my favour!
