Minecraft Switch Vs Phone Game Query

Hello,

I'm new to the gaming world and need to understand if its worth upgrading to switch version from phone for multiplayer purposes. Currently my kid plays on the phone with friends but would like to know if there are any advantages with using Nintendo switch instead. We do have a switch with other games but particularly interested in how the multiplayer online gaming part works. For Mario cart the online gaming component seems to be additional paid component and not part of the game is this correct and the same for Minecraft? I would like to minimise using phone due to small screen size, close proximity, poor posture etc. since sometimes they play for extended periods. Are the Minecraft switch versions all compatible with each other?

Looking at getting this game

Thanks

Well you can play multiplayer with Switch and phone version of Minecraft, Minecraft is cross playable across platforms thankfully. You could buy a controller for the phone and it'd achieve the same thing. Multiplayer wireless in the same home doesn't cost anything, even online should be free if someone sets up a server iirc. A Realm costs money but is not necessary, though it is nice to heave it persist in the cloud instead of being on the phone or Switch if you both work on the world together and sometimes you like to play alone.

But if this kid is like every kid in the world, I bet they would like playing Minecraft on the Switch while watching Minecraft YouTubers on their phone at the same time.

    • Thank you for your reply. The multiplayer is for playing with other friends not in same home. I will need to look into how to set up the server, I just didnt want to add unnecessary additional fees. My friend mentioned that Nintendo caps the data on switch to 2GB so needs to be constantly deleted. I don't know how much data one game takes etc so that might be annoying.

      • You can host an online game in the game iirc, it’s bern a while since i played so I can’t remember how online multiplayer works.
