Please Suggest a Decent Robot Vacuum/mop

Hi there

I’m hoping to pick up a robotic vacuum and mop in the Boxing Day sales.

I’ve never had one and basically going in circles from all the online articles and reviews.

We have floating floorboards in the main areas and carpet in bedrooms. No pets. There is a step down (one step) into our master bedroom but if that’s too difficult to accommodate, I can manually do that one room.

Any suggestions for a decent model below $500?

As it’s my first robot vacuum, I have no expectations - just trying to save myself time and physical element as I’ve recently had an accident.

Thanks for your help.

Give irobot vaccums a go. I have it for over 3 years now and love it. I have the version which automatically empties the bin.

Depends on your needs. We have 3 dogs that like walking their dirty paw prints onto our neutral floor tiles at the rear of our house, we use the mopping pads to try and clean the tiles.

We started with lower cost Robo Vac/Mop machines (Botslab 360 S8+ - $449 and Roborock S7 - $950), the 2 had fixed pads and whilst they did on OK job of cleaning the tiles, they left streaks that were as notacable as the paw prints.

We then purchased a Dreame L10S with rotating pads for $1,150, it didn't leave streaks but the 40-50mm nearest the skirting boards just looked dirty and dirtier as time went by.

We then purchased the Dreame L20 Ultra for $2,300 with rotating mops and the mop nearest the skirting moves out and cleans within 2mm of the skirting, a much better machine for our needs.

Not a complete loss, we sold the Botslab 360 for $200 and the Roborock and Dreame L10S are at our 2 storey holiday house.

So, you kinda get what you pay for.

I suppose I won't have a better chance ever to say this - it doesn't matter, they all suck

    • That they do 😂😂😂

  • I've been happy with my Roomba, but they are over $500 new. I got mine secondhand from Gumtree for $600.

I haven't tried a cheaper one, but the biggest feature the cheaper ones seem to lack is the mapping. It's super convenient to be able to tell the Roomba to vacuum a specific room or area of the house so I recommend getting something with that feature. If you're using it to vacuum the whole house beware that it will take ages. Mine is scheduled to start at 7am and finishes around 1pm (with breaks to charge). That's with it vacuuming 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, laundry and bathroom.

I ended up going with the Roomba i5. It was half price at Big W plus an extra 10% off with my Everyday Extras so came down to $449.
Hopefully it works well, I really don't have any expectations so I'm sure it will be fine to begin with :)
