Pre-orders went live mid-Nov in Australia by the way.

    Quick common answers:-

    • Yes, you need a PS5 for the Portal to work as games are streamed to it via remote play.
    • No, it does not play anything natively on the device itself nor have any storage to do so.
    • No, you cannot play one game on PS5 and another on Portal at the same time.
    • Yes, you can connect Portal on a different wifi network than the PS5 (i.e. travelling).
    • No, it does not have Bluetooth for headphones. Wireless headphones with PS Link are coming soon.
    • Yes, it has a 3.5mm jack to connect wired headphones.
    • You could emulate a similar effect with a Backbone or Dualsense clip + mobile phone or other setup but this gives you a clean single unit with full DualSense functionality in a single seamless package.
    • So why not just buy something like the Backbone controller for your phone instead?

No DualSense controller features like haptics/triggers/audio and ergonomics.

Backbone has offset sticks which some people hate.

Wear and tear on phone battery.

Phone is out of action instead of being free for calls, chat, discord, ozb, socials, whatever.

Apparently Portal has better remote play streaming tech than phones which makes it smoother.

Some people add value to a seamless pick-up-and/go device without any setup faff.

    • really? i never saw the amazon pre-order til last week

      • Ya can confirm pre-order were earlier available.

I initally ordered via Amazon DE to get day one release but then cancelled once AU stock was a thing.

  • $329 for something that doesn't have Bluetooth support or even an OLED screen

    This product is a joke

  • I just do not see it selling any worthwhile stock amounts at that price. $329 for a streamable device is incredibly divisive, especially because you already need a PS5. I understand that is a given because why get the device if you don't have one, but it is part of the total equation.

If Sony offered cloud gaming then this would definitely be more worth its value, as I wouldn't be required to purchase a console. I also would not be "tied" to the console as well, providing more flexibility.

  • I'd be concerned about the controller durability. If later on there is any problems with the controller, would have to RMA the whole unit.

  • Just got an email from EB Games. Double your trade bonus towards a PSP on PS5, Xbox Series X and Switch games and accessories.

    Valid until 09/02/24.
