When I list on FB marketplace I add in the listing "PICKUP ONLY. CASH ON PICKUP."

It actually works 99% of the time, otherwise I just get spammed with payid/PayPal/eft requests.

        • +2

Wish it worked for location. I put the pick up suburb in the title and description, 99% of the time still get asked where is pick up…

          • @bamzero: True.

Try put the location + pickup only + cash only in caps at the top of the listing description. Then if anyone asks for payid or location ignore/block them?

            • @reactor-au: Got no problem with EFT, but only use PayID rather than give my bank details and goods just don't leave till funds are in my account. UP also provides an @up.me PayID which is handy to use for marketplace as it can't be spammed like a real email or my mobile number.

Don't normally post but last week had a guy wanting to buy something from other side of the country. Gave him price with postage, he sent to my PayID and I shipped it out (even received funds instantly even though was sent from CBA, have had lesser amounts delayed). Quicker and easier than some of the in person transactions I've had.

              • @bamzero: The problem isn't payid, it's that of you don't say cash on pickup only, then you get 5 scammers every hour asking for your payid and address because their wife/brother/nan is coming to pickup, then they will send you email saying you need to "upgrade to payid business to accept the funds". Hopefully you know the rest of the scam operandi.

                • @reactor-au: Yeh, maybe depends on the items for sale. Trying to think of last time I've got em on items I've listed but am aware of the payid scam. Doesn't take long to weed them out, and need to deal with "is this available" anyway.

Just a pity that people hear payid now and instantly think scammer (though the banks randomly delaying 24 hours make it kind of hard to rely on for in person pickups too)

Im sending a friend to pick it up, as im currently working on a oil rig in the north atlantic.

    payid ok?

    • Yes PayID is safe its just a safer method of bank transfer without sharing ones BSB and bank account number, usually tied to ones mobile number but suggest do it in person if buyer is asking to pay upfront and brother/sisyer/cousin etc is going to pickup
then its a scam, also PayPal is not safe so keep away, PayPal is either business transaction i.e. through eBay or Guntree portal ONLY otherwise its for family or friends, certainly not for strangers 😉

  • @ZackyD

    • lol @ZackyD did you swap back the Xbox?

  • i have a ps5 for 1,000

definately not a scam at that price.
problem is im stuck on a oil rig…..

  • And the ones genuinely trying to sell a PS5 at a fair price cause all of these ridiculous scammers low priced fb marketplace listings then one gets buyers saying ive see this on marketplace cheaper blah blah blah, f-off lol why eBay is better alternative for certain reasons, thanks OP have something to pass too buyers 👍😉😊😃🍻

edit: PS5 brand new @ BigW sells for $799 think $200 of new @ $600 for excellent condition I consider a fair price especially if the newer latest model the 1202A, anything below $500 to $550 is certainly a scam

    • The local cashies is selling the fat model with a controller for $545
