Solar Power Video Doorbell without Subscription

Hi, can anyone recommend me a video doorbell that has a chime and records to local storage? I don't mind if the sdcard is where the doorbell is… but the main things are solar so i don't need to keep recharging and it has to be responsive.

I have been using a china unbranded one that has all this except it can take a few seconds to view the feed which i was dealing with but recently the usb charging port has stopped working.

I was looking at eufy 2k battery operated and i found a wasserstein solar panel but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere!

  • Hey mate.

    Tldr: Check out Tapo.

Long version: After doing quite a bit of research into Eufy, Ring, etc, I've chosen to go with Tapo (TP Link). They have local storage (no subscription if you don't want it) in the hub inside your home.

They have a good app and good reviews on their cameras. I've never used their cameras before but too a plunge. Have to say I'm pretty happy with what I've gotten so far. I didn't get the solar powered models but I know they have them (or at least a solar panel you can plug into the cameras)

Have a look. Might be what you're after. Hope this helps.

    • Thanks for that. I was looking into it i couldn't find a solar option. But just realised spare batteries aren't too much more.. this might be on top of my list for now. Any chance you have a link for the solar panel/model?

    • Thanks again mate. I ended up getting it for $117. Will buy a spare battery soon. Is it pretty responsive? Ie after a motion or pressung doorbell, you can chat to them asap?

    • Nice features but geez many of these camera doorbells all look plasticky and IMO just ugly. Ring probably the prettiest IMO but not interested in them. Would love to find something similar to Tapo but with a nice finish - all stainless, or some other other finish that isn't like a jaycar jiffy box.
