Hi Rep, lots of coffee stores are using OzB for free advertising, any bargains?

    • +1

The best practice is: post, disappear, never respond.

    • The bargain is 40% off which isn’t a deal every other week like other roasters.

Percentage off isn't necessarily a bargain - could still be expensive compared to all the others that get posted. The point is that the rep hasn't included any examples of prices

EDIT: and sure enough it's more expensive than the usual Airjo/Lime Blue/Inglewood/Coffee on Cue

These guys are a much much smaller outfit than the roasters you list. Their usual prices are in line with other specialty coffee roasters. I’ve used their beans before and they’re very good.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the products from all coffee deals posted on this site as equal. By your reasoning the <$20/kg Vittoria beans would trump all coffee deals. Cheaper isn’t better; you need to contextualise based on the deal at hand. For example; the roasters you list don’t really specialise in light roasts or their selection is limited.

This is a great deal for those who want to support a small producer who make a great product.

          • @GreenPlastic: Awesome. It would be great if some of that context were explained in the post by the store representative, rather than simply using this site as advertising

        • ah look - 40% off isn't a big discount when you consider the directcoffee deals going lately - but this is one of my more favorite roasters, so for me - who usually pays full price while I'm waiting for directcoffee to throw in some more wine glasses with some pillar (hinty hint hint)

Good times and among friends blend are my picks from brightside.

the shit bit about the deal is - to get free shipping - you do have to order $75 worth, which for me and the discount voucher ended up being 3kg of coffee. I'll end up having to freeze some of these beans I think.

          rack rates are $52/kg
I ordered among friends, good times and pequena finca - total $156, coupon takes off $62.40 and it makes the total $93.60 - $31.20/kg

$31.20/kg is reasonably priced, but not in bargain country, unless you really like this roaster (which, I do)

          • @dbdave303: should mention - the shipping isn't express to get it free, and this deal will be shipping beans on the 2nd - so it'll be end of next week by the time I have them.

          • @dbdave303: Are you a long black espresso drinker?

I've got nearly 5kg of Inglewood, normcore and undercover roasters in my freezer but have been slightly underwhelmed by all of it. I run a kingrinder k6/cafalet robot setup which is like budget enthusiast level - is Brightside a noticeable step up?

@Sublimit: short black and flat whites only really
I think so, but I haven't tried much from inglewood or norm so couldn't compare.

I've got a budget-ish setup (old la scala butterfly I refurbed & a shitty breville smart-grinder (keep almost pulling the trigger on a better grinder) - still pulls a quality shot though!
