Worthwhile with "shipito" and buying the Lenovo X230T from US instead?

Hi all

Having heard many stories from Whirlpool and perhaps here too about freight forwarders, I'm just wondering whether it's worthwhile getting a new Lenovo X230 convertible tablet in the US and forwarding it here rather than buying it here during a weekend sale.

It will be a heavy duty laptop to do my work rather than some fancy entertainment machine.

US: Pros
* Price.

US: Cons
* Warranty
* Need to wait longer

Basically the Pros/Cons are reversed for an Australian purchase.

It will be salary sacrificed, so the invoice may be a problem with a US purchase in terms of the address?

What are your thoughts?

  • wait for a twist instead

    • I want the power of the i7 and the digitizer pen! :p

  • I'd wager you wont be able to salary sacrifice an import, but that's just a guess. whats teh price difference? whats the shipping price… usually you can save quite a few hundred by importing, depends on the saving i guess…
    i look at it as a risk vs cost aspect… if im only saving 10-20 bux, on a decent size item id just buy local.

    • I'd say save around $200 (including the GST that has already been deducted) for the import? But then again that means warranty.

      What would you go for if you saved $200?

        No. Not for the warranty, over a 3 year period. Do you plan to own it for three years?.

        Warranty is a quarantee of quality, without warranty i wouldnt buy it. As Lenovo quality is becoming a more increasing problem.

      • If more than $1000 you will have to pay import duty and GST

    Before committing to shipito check out their reviews, rates and services with other forwarding services at http://www.usa-package-forwarding-comparison.com/… not affiliated to the site, nice to have impartial comparisons

    • page not found…

      • Just remove the … at the end

        • hmm shipito seems to have the worst rating, yet, less complaints and less scams…as well as cheaper prices in most cases (except japan), seems VERY bias!

          really need to know what they are basing the rating on…
          just cause they are not a member of BBB does not make them untrustworthy… looks like that is what they are basing it on. and maybe putting bad publicity on them to get them to join and pay fees!!!

          that site seems dodgy sorry!

          i love shipito. works great. i wouldn't use anything else, it was such a positive experience (motorbike gear)

        • yeah same, shipito ++, other than that there is a lady that lives in Bendigo - i use her for assisted purchases (eg newegg) she is fairly reasonable and fantastic customer service.
