Camry V6 1998 - Security Light Not Working

Thinking I have electrical issues…. security light would go off after hot weather.

Car was in the sun, dash felts like 60c and key barrel was hot as well. Car will crank and start but guessing no fuel as it just dies. Then it's a mission to get the light back on. Usually, this means airing out the car and it cools and the light goes back on. I can then start and drive. Yesterday, I took out the dash, cleaned connectors and it seemed solid/working better. Had a period today where it did go off, then it went back on. Went to fill up fuel and it's not coming back on… even after being cool. Have to push it 80m and it's been in front of a liquor store for most of the day.

Any ideas or tricks about bypassing the security light?

    Try this.

    • Yes, well I spent the afternoon watching people carrying away cartons. Our area is a high theft area and leaving it in front of the liquor store triggered my paranoia.

  • Ever thought , Auto electrician !
Sometimes you have to pay to get things done , its not rocket science.

  • That light is so old that the US selective service would have released it from the draft by now. Probably should see an auto electrician if you want it going another 26 years.

Edit: Just realised this is instructions for a Corolla, 1998, not a Camry 98, but I would think this could be similar, worth a shot.
If you're referring to the red light flashing on the dash, then if you still have the remote to lock the car, put it into the slot in the glove box with the sensor section facing inwards and leave it there for a while, this should turn off the central locking and stop the security light from flashing, which then should allow to to put the key in the ignition and start the car (assuming there aren't any other problems, such as a flat battery or engine issues).

    • If you're referring to the red light flashing on the dash

Thank you for the explanation of what the heck the OP is talking about when they refer to the "security light".

  • Have to top up the Security Light Fluid.

  • Had a few similar issues with mine, get a BCM diagnostic performed.

In fact, get a full diagnostic performed.

    • Hi, I think you mentioned issues with the 12v in another thread? Cleaning the positive wires + checking grounds. Ecu replacement will probably mean the end of the car.

    Is it your car?

  • username seems to be a portent of the future

  • Battery in key fob dicked?

    • no key fob…

      • Problem No. 1 eliminated.

  • found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ryeKNn2VwI&t=919s for a 97. 98 xle seems more complicated but could get lucky. 12v straight to the fuel pump bypasses it. So could make a fuel pump switch, then start the car as normal.
