This will get removed from the App Store for sure. Even though it doesn’t include ROMs and is open source, emulators are explicitly banned.

Interested to see if it continues to work once installed and remove from the store but.

ScummVM isn’t an emulator though, it’s a rewrite of the games’ executables. You can read more about it here: https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=About and here: https://docs.scummvm.org/en/latest/help/faq.html#is-scummvm-…

Interesting, so it’s more like WINE.

It's possible to listen to a supported game's MT-32 music score (if present) without an actual MT-32, via a sophisticated system which emulates it

Still uses emulation for audio, however.

Yeah. But the games contain the game scripts not the app. So this is a violation of the AppStore guidelines.

Whoever the original app reviewer was must have fallen asleep on their work desk, and simply hit Approve.

          • @DoctorCalculon: Not sure. There definitely is inconsistency in how the AppStore rules are applied.

“iSH Shell” is still on the AppStore, and that is an emulator capable of running Linux.

I’m not sure if they reversed engineered the scripts in the games and rewrote them to run natively or if they reversed engineered the interpreters that run the original scripts.

Ie. is all that’s being used from the original game files the images and sound files? Or are the scripts in the original game files also being used? The later is definitely in violation of the rules.

Really all irrelevant as they admit the sound files are still being emulated.

    Is there similar for Android?

Have you considered Googling “ScummVM Android” and finding out?

      • +1

There's no need to behave like that towards someone simply asking a question.

Sorry for being abrasive. I just wish people would try Googling things more often. We’re lucky to live in a time where information is so easily available.

          • @PainToad: This has been available for android since forever. Scumm also works on multiple O/S (linux, windows, android etc). You can always download this from scummvm.

I have loaded scummvm on my ipads since ios 8, however used to have to jailbreak or resign, this is just now available through app store so you dont have that worry

Webrcade is getting ScrummVM support soon if anyone wants an alternative that works on most modern devices with a browser; iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, Mac, Windows…

Being web based, it can’t be blocked by Apple.
