Best reasonably-priced Win7 desktop computer for basic web/email/office use

My in-laws need a new computer - nothing swish as it's just email, office, web browsing as you'd expect. They would need a monitor too if it's not one of these new-fangled all in one things (which may be ideal as it'd reduce the number of cables they could pull out…).

What's a good deal around at the moment? I'm thinking about $500-$600 would suffice wouldn't it?

  • That's it? No gaming or anything else?

If you want an all-in-one, you could try this for $499 after $99 cashback from Acer

It's a relatively low-powered Core i3 desktop with a 21" touchscreen. Of course, the pitfalls with any all-in-ones is that you can't upgrade it and hardware repairs can be prohibitively expensive.

If you want a regular desktop, try this prebuilt, select the options you want — e.g DVD drive, Windows 7 OEM $89, and Wireless N

and then mix and match it with any LED monitor you want.

  • Get anything with an i3. Will be able to decode 1080 movies, and even play games (up to a point). Anything less is probably not worth it.

Otherwise the only thing to consider spending more cash on is the screen, it if is going to be used a lot a good screen can go along way. Having said that, many people just don't seem to care.
