Has anyone used these generic brand locks ? I don’t have any issues with using generic IOT stuff for temperature or power switch, but would have my reservation for door lock esp with finger print scanning.

Does these work within local network instead of calling the server ?

if your not a builder dont do it. ive kicked down 1 door now and had to do some proper messing around on my 2nd door the other night. they work most the time but when they dont your locked out

      • +3

Why would you kick down the door? You can use a key to open the door even when the battery's flat right?

        • +1

I was about to comment this. I've been able to get around the battery run flat scenario with a physical key or the usb port for temporary power to the handle.

        • yeah 2nd door i was able to connect a powerbank via usb but the 1st one that i had to boot down wouldnt engage properly no matter what i did. 2 story house with all the windows locked my only option was to kick it in and fix from the inside. i tried everything though i had wire under the door trying to get the handle. it was a shit show.

@bob98: I feel like replacing a broken window is less of a pain than replacing a kicked in door jamb :S

            • @johnno07: Kicking window on 36th floor is not a good idea 😅

          • @bob98: Just to be clear, you didn’t have the backup manual keys with you?

            • +1

@Raskids10: Sounds to me more like it wasn't installed properly so the bolt mechanism couldn't move freely and jammed.

      • +1

I would have reservations as well, but it does say “ traditional key methods can also be used”. It comes with two keys, but I would still have concerns about it jamming.

Also, if it is a cloud based app, no thanks.

        • +1

Totally understandable and valid view point… and yeah it is cloud based via tuya or smart life app but only connects to these apps via your mobile phone's Bluetooth.

    • Yeah i bought this off Amazon 2 weeks ago but it was the more slimline version. the We love it. We are thinking for getting 3 more

      • How much did you bought it then? Do you have a link? Am curious (and interested) of the slim line look 🙂

        • +1

I saw the one you posted but i thought the 2 rows of numbers would be to chunky on the handle. So i got this one
          https://amzn.asia/d/1HNQ6Rw

          • @ego22: Aah base on the review pics, it looks like it will be the same chunk as the door handle in this deal (I have a similar one myself - ie with the 2 number rows). The numbers are of smaller font to fit on the one handle.

  • I guess someone could follow you around, lift your fingerprint from some surface like a glass of water in a restaurant and use it to gain access to your house? Or am I watching too many movies?

    • +3

      It's not mission impossible ;)

    • They could also just buy a few different ones and use the included key because I doubt they're all custom 😂

    • +2

Hmm follow someone around for days to see if they have one of these locks, get them to a restaurant, try grab their glass they used, use some technology to lift the print, make sure they are not home the next time you go there and then try fumble around with a latex finger print…. Or…. Buy a $5 screwdriver and break the window.

I think you watch to much tv champ

  • How many fingers can be registered and what is passcode length (size matters)

    • +2

I've been able to save 8 fingerprints so far and was able to setup a 6 digit length passcode. It looks like 10 digits max can be set base on setting up a timed password.

  • +1

I have got one of these and they're not bad
A few notes though, I certainly wouldn't be using it on an exterior door, it's mostly made of plastic and could quite easily be pulled off.
My one also seems to just reset itself every so often which means it opens for anybodies fingerprint, whether this is a fault with my particular one, who knows.
Pros: the battery lasts a hell of a long time and it will open the door when you pull the handle both up and down, it's also fun to watch your friends and family get stuck because they don't realise it's fingerprint activated :)

Not as easy according to bob's earlier reply…

Bough on on eBay for the same price. Installed 2 months ago. No issues.

  • +2

Note to anyone who buys these. Save the same fingerprint of you same finger many times on the handle.

  • Coupon selection box not appearing for me. Can someone confirm if it is still valid?

    • +2

Opened link in incognito and can confirm coupon has been exhausted. Door handle party over…

There is a similar door handle on a deal but for $15 extra ie $69.99 and black colour instead of silver.

Smart Lock 5 in 1, LKUWEE Fingerprint Door Lock Set, Keyless Entry Door Knob with APP/Code/Keys/IC Card/Fingerprint, Electronic Keypad Lock Remote APP Control, Reversible Handle

It has an extra option to unlock via some kind of RFID tag.
