DWI Canon 40mm Lens Firmware

Hi, I bought a 40mm f2.8 lens from dwi and I noticed it had the auto focus problem that canon has addressed. This can be fixed with a firmware update our serviced by canon. I don't have a compatible camera to update the firmware so I need to take it to canon.

My question is, will canon Australia service my lens since its a grey import? I know canon no longer has world wide warranty but this is a world wide issue that is aware of.

  • Even if there was a recall by Canon because of the issue (which there wasn't) they would be telling you to contact the seller, not them, as it is a grey import. If DWI won't come to the party take the issue up with Fair Trading.

    • I doubt FT will be able to do much as DWI don't fall under Australian jurisdiction since they are a company based and trading outside of Australia.

  • Do you know anyone with a 5D mkiii? Looks like you can use one of them to apply the update to the lens. Canon Australia would probably do it for a fee - worth asking what that would be.

EDIT: This article suggests that the 650D can also apply the update -> http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2012/08/27/canon-firmwa…
